Day 23 odd, can we compare to the others you speak of?

I saw movement yesterday and I'll have to wait till I get home to take pics. I also saw veins when I looked after posting this. So I set it with the DUP up and kind of off by itself.

A hen in good laying condition cannot be fat, she need not be too thin either; what we want is good condition a bit closer to thin than to fat. On four legged animals the spine would feel like soft, rounded hills. But how can we tell condition on poultry? Since poultry lay fat on differently than four legged animals, we have to look elsewhere as the spine is not the indicator we need. On poultry we need only examine the pelvic bones as indicators of body condition.

Yesterday was day 21. At 4:30 A.M. the black one hatched. At 10:00 P.M. last night, 17 hrs. later the chipmunk hatched. Today is day 22 and no action so far. These were shipped eggs Oklahoma to CA and my first try at hatching.

I kept one hygrometer at 30-35% and the one that came with the Farm Innovator was always 10% higher. They were both calibrated to be right. In fact the one reading low tested at 74% with the salt/water. The temp stayed at 99.5.

What can you tell by the hatch pictures? I had to wash off the black ones head today, the feathers were plastered to HER head then I blowed it dry.

Is there any chance more will hatch. I can't believe the 4 Jap. eggs that were from my hens didn't hatch.

Yes.

A few people do it both ways, but I believe it should calculated based on the number of eggs set and the number of eggs hatched.

My last hatch rate was 14%, but if you exclude infertile eggs, then it'd be 100%. Excluding infertile eggs and blood rings can really scew the results.

I would candle look for internals / death assist article in in my siggy, but you may need to wait, were some eggs fresher than others?

Thank goodness for our new powerout alarm!! Wind is Terrible in the Mnts here!

IT WORKED and awoke us!!
We had generator running and bators and brooders back with power quickly as we had a previous run down of order since our last chaos with outage!
Not so sure how that would have ran if I had been by myself though

Temp at replug was 99.3 so I think it can take a tad longer loss.
