Diary of Mommy Satin’s First Hatch

They are changing so fast! Mine are 1 week and a couple days and I can see them getting brave leaving momma to go explore the run. My other hens steer WAY away from her and the babies.

I have chicks the same age, 1 week and 3 days old today.

Dirt bathing babies!
Gosh, this heatwave brought so many flies to the run. I'm now finding myself looking up DIY fly trap videos, lol... On the bright side the chickens are enjoying a little more insect protein when they manage to snag one.

And a 1 day old chick now! Our broody hatched her first, 2 have pipped. I love it’s beard!

I'm pretty sure number 1 is a roo. very slow feathering and his feet are getting quite large!

How are they doing in the friendliness department? I'm looking to set some bantam eggs in the crock pot this week... hoping to have some super tame chickens (if any actually hatch)!

Well, each day we take 2 of the chicks (1 per person) out and pet them, feed them, bond with them. They will come to my hand in I reach down, but right now I am working on being able to try and hold them.
