Did I get sold roosters instead of hens

The only thing with Ideal, is that they will add in extras for warm and to fill up the box enough. And those extras are almost always males.

They actually don't do that as long as you purchase either a heat pack or extra straw.

They were sold as pullets. The associate even said "I hear these are great for eggs."
I think this my be my only hen.

I
They have all been living a cushy life playing in alfalfa and eating organic crumble. So I'll have to find those fellas a good farm.

Thanks for the answers. I think I'll order my replacements. Any recommendations on where to order from?
Whatever you do, do NOT use Ridgway Hatchery. I got 8 roosters out of 24 sexed "pullets."

Straight from their policy info.-
If your order consists of a very small number of items (less than the equivalent of a quarter of a box), there may be male chicks placed in the box for warmth or comfort during shipping. The breed of chicks included varies from order to order and unfortunately we are unable to identify the breed. If you do not wish for us to include males in your order, you may choose to purchase insurance for your shipment at a minimal cost.

I'm telling you this from experience. I ordered with them several times this year. They apparently haven't updated their policy on their website, but they no longer sell insurance. They sell heat packs and extra straw instead. You can find the heat packs and straw on their website under supplies and it says right in their description that you need to order them if you don't want extra males.

I agree with Pyxis. I also ordered from ideal and opted for no extra males so I too ordered 16 babies with the heat pack and straw. And every one of them survived and are thriving.

I am verry new to the chicken game and like most I started with a trip to TSC.
I left a bit later with a starter kit and a box of 6 hens. ( or so we thought) 9 weeks later I am hearing these hens learn to crow.

They all look the same but one. So I am wondering if they sold me roosters and not hens.

Any help would be great.

This happened to me too. 4 roosters two hens. I’m pissed. I invested a few thousand on my chicken run and coop. Not to mention 18weeks of my time making a space in the cellar over the winter with a heat lamp. I want to be compensated.
