Did I just hurt my chicken with permethrin 10?!?

She was walking around a little this morning when I checked on her. Her name is Redrum, btw, don’t think I ever mentioned it. I checked her crop and it had def gone down but wasn’t completely empty. I don’t smell anything foul coming from her beak either. She does have water in there and just a little food so she may have eaten some before I got there. I did change out her water and put probiotics in the new clean water. I gave her some grit as well. She pecked at the grit but I haven’t seen her drink much water. I did take an eye dropper and give her some water that way. I’m not forcing it down her, just putting it against her beak and she drinks it. While I had the other chickens out I let her outside for a few min. She walked around and then started preening her feathers. She started falling asleep after preening so I put her back in the brooder. When it’s warmer and the sun is out more this afternoon I plan to let her out again with the others and let her free range and sun bathe. She still seems better than yesterday morning so hoping she’s even better this afternoon. I’m just a little worried she isn’t drinking much beside what I give her through the eye dropper. I give her fluids until she starts to pull alway. I don’t want her getting more stressed than she already is. She pooped throughout the night which looks fine. She is fully dry but still stands while sleeping. I included and action shot of her preening this morning.

I have heard noises coming from her that kind of sound like a noise that comes from my stomach when it’s empty and I’m really hungry…if that makes sense. I’ve never heard her make that noise before. It kind of sounds like it was from her crop. When I get up in the morning and check her crop and if it’s still not empty could I be dealing with sour crop or an impaction?

You said she's not drinking much. She needs more fluids to help her digestion. They make several electrolyte/probiotic products for their water, like Hydro-Hen, and sometimes that may make them drink a little more. Plus, the probiotics could even help if there's some digestion issues. If you have nothing like this, about a tbsp of plain or Greek yogurt we've given just for a treat even, and they gobble it up.

Thank you! I can try the yogurt! She’s been drinking a little more this afternoon. She hanging out in the sun right now and picking berries off our berry bush and is a little better this afternoon.

Actually washing the excess permethrin off would have been good, but in this case she wasn't going to handle the extra stress, so it couldn't be done. Not ideal, but she's gradually recovering anyway. Good nursing and a tough bird!

Thank you! I know I’ve made some mistakes but trying to do better and get her healed. She’s out right now with her flock sunning and just hanging out with them. She’s starting to drink more this afternoon which is good to see. I’m just going to be encouraging fluids, maybe get her to try some yogurt and just watch her. But she seems to be happy being with her sisters right now.

I'm so glad she is improving! You've done wonderful with her to get her back to her usual, so think of it that way.

We all make mistakes, but most aren't fatal, and even if they are, we learn from them. That's the important thing!

So Redrum spent most of the afternoon outside with her flock free ranging. She did finally lay down for a little under the truck with some of the other hens and took a nap. She actually came running at one point for treats with everyone else. So she definitely looks much better. I know she probably still doesn’t feel her best and I’m sure you don’t want to eat a lot when you don’t feel well, but her crop is almost completely empty after free ranging for the last few hours. I’m a little worried she’s not eating enough. She was drinking on her own earlier today but I think im going to have to syringe feed her some fluids. I just want to make sure she’s getting nutrients. She barely ate the treats and I fed her some yogurt which she ate a tiny amount of. I also made some of her food into a mash with some water and she did eat a little bit of that. Picture of Redrum in the back with some of her sisters.

So glad that she is acting more normal. Watery feed (add water as needed since it dries and expands,) is a good way to get fluids into her. I even add water to scrambled egg. Are you seeing any bugs on the others? When they get lice or mites, the coop bedding usually needs to be emptied far away, and the coop, nest boxes, and roost sprayed with permethrin. That should not be dangerous mixed 1 tsp per quart of water. It lasts 30 days. I would stick to the dust for the chickens, and that can be used twice at 10 day intervals for lice, or 7 day intervals for mites.
