Did you insulate your coop?

No...I suppose they dont 'need' insulation...but we did insulate and it's always a bit warmer inside. I only have 4 chickens in a 8x8' coop so they don't create much body heat and when it's really cold or windy, they don't even come outside. They like to stay where it's 'always a bit warmer'.

PLEASE... it's gonna rain soon and i need some advice!

Storm's here. heavy rain. Well , it's warm and Marans are swamp chickens. It's dry under the coop. Guess i will keep the coop closed with the light on and tomorrow, floor the coop. Won't get too cold tonight, the Marans will be ok.
Thanks,
Karen

I would have covered the floor with some sand mixed with DE and left the light on for a couple of days to help dry it out. Then add a good layer of clean shavings on top of sand and mix in a bit more DE. Hope that helps!

The only part of my coop that I insulated was the underside of the roof because it is metal and I was getting some condensation forming. The rest of the coop is uninsulated and they seem to do fine.

I did, but I live in British Columbia (in the Rockies) where it's not rare to see -35C/-31F. I also have a heat lamp and try to keep it 5C/41F in the coop.

I did. Put black paper around the outside, before attaching the t-111. Insulation in the walls, a moisture barrier over that, then the interior sheeting. We have high winds, it gets cold and it gets hot.
It's comfortable inside for the birds, no freezing eggs or water, and no wind pushes through the walls. When I'm done raising chickens it'll be a nice work shop.

We insulated ours- floor, walls, and roof. I live in MN and when your winter+snow lasts longer than 3 months AND gets below freezing/0 almost every day, we had to do it for peace of mind. It helps keep drafts out and it saves on our electric bill! All we have to do is turn on the heat lamp for 2 hours and we won't have to turn it back on until the next day because it retains the heat so well- it stays about 40 degrees even with good ventillation.
