BBR stands for Black Breasted Red? I'm not familiar with terminology, so please forgive my ignorance. I came across that page prior and read it thoroughly. I'm concerned about Araucana chickens that have brown egg genes. Just how hard is it to find a pure Araucana chicken? What can one expect to pay for SOP quality show chickens?

Yes BBR stands for Black Breasted Red. Many araucana lay blue eggs, Black Breasted Red wheaten tend to lay more green to green brown. It is not hard at all to find pure Araucana if you know what to look for. Just because a bird lays green eggs does not mean it is not 100% araucana.

You can expect to pay several hundred dollars for a show quality bird if not more. The term show quality is relative. Just because a bird is tufted and rumpless, does not make it show quality. There are very very few truly show quality araucana and smart breeders hang on to them.

I expect to pay for a quality chicken what I would pay for a quality dog. Money is not the issue, finding quality foundation stock for my flock is the issue. The color of the chicken is not as important to me as a chicken that is going to lay a consistently true blue eggs. However, if it is possible to find wheaten araucanas that can produce true blue eggs, that would be my ideal, but I realize this may not be possible.

I want chickens that are going to give me true blue eggs and are quality chickens that are going to produce offspring that are true to the standard of perfection. I am interested in having these chickens for egg production, but I would like to help increase the quality and availability of quality araucana chickens for the love of the breed more than anything else.

I have a question. If I breed my EE roo to a white egg laying hen will the hens that hatch lay blue eggs?

Depends on how many copies of the blue egg gene your rooster carries. If he carries two copies, all his female offspring will lay blue. If he only has one copy, half would lay blue and half white.

Ok. Thanks. I think he carries a green and blue. But as long as the hens lay a different color than white I'm fine.

Ok help me out here please someone told me to post this pic of my cockerel here. Ok June, last summer, I bought two chicks. I payed $50.00 for them I gave one cockerel away a few weeks ago because I didn't need two. Well, the woman I bought them from said they were Araucana. Araucanas are rumpless right? Ok, a couple people on here have told me on here that he is an Americauna. Then other people have told me that he is an Easter Egger. What is he?

He's an easter egger. Or he could even be a mix of some other bearded breed. No real way to know without raising his female offspring to laying.

Might get green, light olive, or brown. If he does carry the blue gene, he may only have one copy.

That is a good cross since the chicks would be sex linked.
