I'm long winded so I'll try to keep this short.
This Easter mom had made chicken soup she never made before and man was it good. We ate a huge pot of it and it was just suppose to be a side dish type thing. I think the chilly weather had something to do with it.
She cooked one good ole fat hen with carrots, celery, cabbage, turnips, one whole onion and then added homemade noodles. She also added some thigh meat (cheap) as well for extra meat. Of course she salt and peppered to taste and she said she added celery salt to taste as well.
I guess it was the cabbage and turnips but it was absolutely DELICIOUS. The cabbage cooked down to the point in which you couldn't really see it but the turnips where noticable. I love turnips so that wasn't a problem for me. My sister is a little on the picky side so she ignored the turnips and placed the cabbage (she could see) to the side but she had several bowls. Like I said she is picky and she even commented how good it was.
My mom is an excellant cook but this was a combination she had never cooked before. My grandmother recently passed away at the ripe old age of 96 and mom said she found it in a box of recipes when she was cleaning out grandmas house so she thought she would try it. Mom said to the best of her recollection grandma didn't fix it very often when they were growing up.
