I have looked and looked and scrolled thru and read so many post on here and other forums, but so far have come up empty handed as to what could possibly cause the combination of these symptoms. I have a grown white leghorn hen, not real sure how old she is. I got her and 2 other hens that were kinda scruffy looking because of a to many rooster situation. They were quarantined for about a month and a half with no symptoms so I introduced them to the rest of my flock. About 2 weeks ago, after having been with my main flock for about 4 months, one of the leghorns started coughing with a loud almost squawk at the end of each cough. So after doing some digging and research I came to the conclusion she had gape worms. I wormed her with the safeguard fenbendazole liquid for goats, 3cc on a piece of bread so i know she got a good dose. Also wormed the other 2 older hens. She seemed to get better, the coughing went away. Then about 3 days ago i picked up her up and she had lost quiet a bit of weight. She was still eating and drinking and laying eggs, just not moving around to much though. I separated her and she has sense gotten worse. Now she wont eat nor drink and her pupils are dilated and acts like she cant see directly in front of her. No paralysis or glazing on the eyes. Also she now has clearish runny diarrhea. It was stringy at first so i figured that was the worms dying. The other leghorn is now doing the coughing, she is separated as well but seems to be handling it better then the other one did and she has no diarrhea. Anyone have any insight as to what this could be?
