DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!1

The traps I was thinking of are the kind that are just a cage, that contains the animal. You put in a type of food they like and when they go inside, a door springs shut. It wouldn't hurt your cats, if you accidentally caught them. You could just open the door and let them back out.

I know nothing about ducks, but maybe you could get some tips, either here or in the Other Poultry section, on the best way to get them locked up at night. Do they go in better at night, after it becomes habit? Are there snack bribes you can use to lure them in?

thanks so much cynthia...I may just take you up on that! We will see how the lil ones we have ordered turn out!

So i am armed...albeit with a .177 air rifle ( 1000f/sec should do the trick). I have been practicing all day and although audra is clearly better than me buggar it all i want to kill the jerk animal that hurt my babies!

I also have the new havahart trap between the two coops where audra saw the animal 2 days ago...should i put it inside the coop do you think?
Im putting the girls in lockdown in the alcatraz coop again tonight.

im armed and ticked off so watch out fisher cat!

I'd place the trap outside the coop, lengthwise against the wall of the coop.

Just FYI... a fisher cats heart is located about 3/4 - 1" behind the front shoulder joint and about halfway the height of its abdomen.

Make the first shot count please.

I practiced all afternoon today with the gun and was able to consistently shoot cans/tomatoes ( yeah my wife wasnt happy with me shooting her tomatoes) and a small (quarter sized) circle i drew on a paper target from about 25paces so I think I can actually get this thing in the head/neck/heart with the first shot. Im hoping actually that it just goes in the trap and then I can take it to the animal control/shelter and they can deal with it humanely there.

I managed to catch the ducks and lock them in the spare coop for the night last night and tonight they are again in the spare coop but this time in the covered ( super reinforced 2 layer of wire thick!) run.

Cynthia, I spoke with William and he would really like to try and hatch some more babies since he had invested so much time in the hatching of his babies that were killed so if you have some eggs you wanted to sell let me know and we can work something out.

cheers all again for all the kind thoughts/tips,

aran

Tragedy again:( We got up this morning to find another dead duck and one injured...no sign of where the animal got in or out, the trap had been setoff but no animal inside it. There is one indistinct print of what looks like a cat paw in the dirt.
The ducks will also be locked inside the coop overnight tonight. I feel so stupid, I thought that the ducks in the reinforced run would be safe. William is not awake yet and is going to be devastated. Does anyone have any other ideas we should be trying?

Tongiht I am going to sit awake until i kill this thing...if it takes all night Im sitting up awake.
