So, I'm in the process of purchasing furniture for my entire house. I'm long overdue. I go to a local furniture store and as I'm walking in, the sales person meets me and introduces himself. So, I tell him what I'm looking for and we proceed to walk to the show room of the store. As we are walking, we pass by an open room that has furniture, so I ask him what was in the room. He said that the furniture in the room was discontinued furniture. I asked him what did that mean. He said that the manufacturer doesn't make that style of furniture anymore and there is no warranty included. I asked him was the furniture damaged or used and he said no. So, I proceed to walk in the room and look at the furniture and to my surprise the furniture is VERY NICE. In fact, I found the same type of sofa and love seat set that I had been looking for (microfiber). It was very nice and $400.00 cheaper than the set that I had my eyes on. It's just me in my household, so I dont have any small children and I doubt it I ever sit on the furniture for long periods of time because I'm always in the bedroom. But i do have company over often but I'm not worried about them tearing up the furniture. So my question is, would you purchase discontinued furniture and save money but not have a warranty on the furniture or would you just go with furniture that has a warranty. I'm not sure what to do. Please tell me what would you do.

I would buy the furniture at the discount, most of the time with furniture, defects are visible or can be repaired easily. Styles come and go and you can benefit from a sale such as this, my wife and I have done it many times with no problems.

The warranties on furniture have so many exclusions that getting the warranty to actually cover any problems you may have would be an incredible headache unless you were planning on purchasing from a very expensive line.

I say go for it.

Yup sure would.

Another option....overtsock.com . Reasonable prices and shipping is just 2.95 for everything your entire order.

I just bought a king bed, bedding and mattress from them for right at $1,500.00

Yes, sounds like a deal to me....I happen to only like getting my furniture from flea markets and places like that. I am into antique rustic looking stuff. My bedroom set is from a discounted furniture store and it is some great beautiful stuff and we didn't have a warranty except on the mattress. You can find great deals on good stuff and you can usually look at something and tell what quality it is. If it looks like good sturdy stuff, at that price I would take it over a more expensive item anyday.

I'd buy the cheaper furniture..who really uses the warranty on their furniture anyways? JUst check it out VERY, very well before you buy it!

If you have it delivered, be sure to check it out very thoroughly before accepting delivery. I work with a guy who got 4 damaged hutches delivered before he finally cancelled the order. You'd probably getting the items from the display, but it could be damaged in transit.

I have never used a warranty on anything I have ever bought. I used to always buy the extended warranties and anytime something was went wrong guess what. It wasn't covered. In my opinion they are useless unless it is the 6th Friday of the 14th monthe of every leap year. Get my meaning?

I agree with what everyone has said. I checked out the furniture and I didn't see any defects but will definitely check it again before making the final purchase. I will have a relative pick up the furniture for me. The delivery charge alone is $65.00, so you know I won't be paying for that. I would always buy the extended warranties on items in the past but I never used the warranties, so i dont see this purchase being any different, so i don't feel that I need a warranty. I won't be cutting cartwheels on the furniture, so I dont foresee any future damages. I'm a very frugal person and every penny counts these days. They call me the Coupon Queen because my life revolves around coupons, saving a buck, buying things on sale, clearance rack, recycling, re-using, going green, unplugging household items not being used (microwave, toaster, etc.) and all of that good stuff. Ok, I think I went overboard on that rant. lol.

Everyone has helped me make the decision on this purchase. I'm going for it!!! Thanks everyone.
