I'm going with dog(s). Had this happen to me in Oct. of last year. Killed my starter flock of Blue and Lavender Orps. Got a total of 14 before I realized and stopped the carnage. Called the police, went to court, won my case, still haven't been paid for damages, alas c'est la vie! I am so sorry for your loss and heartbreak!

I am really sorry @Chicken-Boy you should keep the chicks locked up for a while, until you can figure out what came by or until you can sit outside and watch them constantly.

Ok it was definitely dogs, I would guess there was more than one, probably 3 or 4 at least. Do any of you neighbors have dogs?

110% agree.
I am certain without any doubt that it was a group of dogs. At least two.
And I'm not just guessing. I have firsthand experience with flock massacre at the hands of dogs. I watched it happen because I couldn't run fast enough to stop my two huskies.
This is the work of canines.

Where are you? In black bear country? That looks like the outline of a bear track, going the opposite direction of your hand.

A few years ago, we had a bad episode with one mangy fox, seen during the day. We kept our survivors in their coop, and he did return the next day, but we were unable to get a safe shot at him. I drove around the neighborhood, and talked to all the near neighbors, and the folks with chickens within 3/34 mile. One of them was able to shoot this fox the following week, because they were warned.
These varmits will return, and will find other flocks, and you need to get them!
