By the time they're 8 weeks you can voice sex them. If you listen carefully at a few days of age the females will have a sharper, clearer peep while the males will sound a little quieter or raspy even at a young age.

Okay, I managed to catch Hilma in the act of opening the nest today, so I got to see the kits. My count is up to 7 now. She did feed them for quite some time though, so it's still possible that I've missed some, but I don't really think any more will appear. That one little black fellow seems to be the only runt, but he's pretty active too, so I don't think it's a problem. I saw another spotted one today, and one is a greyish black with white markings in the face and paws. Video is still uploading, but should appear in about 5 minutes.
