So... I set a bunch of different quail eggs ~3  (almost 4) weeks ago. The coturnix hatched last week. At the same time I could tell that the bobwhites weren't quite finished yet so decided to leave them for a few more days.

Last night I candled and they should hatch any day now, I can hear and feel them in the eggs. This is over 3 weeks later! All the eggs went into my hovabotor at the same time. Any idea why the bobwhites would have such a delay? They finally seem on track since moving them into the brinsea.

My duck eggs are in the same hovabator incubator now, some are developing but most aren't. :/

bobwhites take 23 to 26 days to hatch,coturnix take 17 to 18 days to hatch.

Seriously? I've been reading 16-21 days on the few pages I've been on. Just can't trust some sources, just glad I don't have to give up on the hovabator.

The Gambel's took 21.5 days. Get ready... Your quail should all hatch in under 90 minutes when they do.... So unlike those lazy chicks that keep you at the incubator for days.

The coturnix hatched pretty quick, cross your fingers the bobwhites are out tonight. I could feel their movements in the shell last night.

Beer, haven't calculated cost, but I'd say it's around 50-60 cents per kilo, and a rough estimate is that they've gone through about 40-60 kilos by now. Adding the cost of the pen makes for a lot of red in the book still though. But I think I calculated we'll be making "profit" after two or three batches compared to store bought bunny meat.

@BriardChickens sorry about the duck.... I TOTALLY feel your pain. I REALLY wish that poultry keeping didn't have this much pain suffering and death and disappointment!!!!

On a brighter note... I need to know all about the bobwhite.... I have read that they are more vicious than the Coturnix... So not more than one male per pen... And supposedly they don't lay as well as the Coturnix... But they are bigger and look lots cooler.

On another sad note.... Nasty fire up here in Alaska.... Moving fast enough that it has eaten up homes and animals.... I don't think any people

Thanks all for the support. I am still hoping my duck is just hiding somewhere...but highly doubt it at this point.

More vicious! I keep reading friendlier for those bobwhites.

, really gotta double and triple check my sources (BYC this time!). Maybe it's a good thing only 4 eggs (out of 8) made it to hatch day.

Stay safe with those fires. How far away is it from you @Alaskan ? 4 weeks later ours is finally under control although it didn't grow for the last week or so. We "only" had forest and muskeg burn but the oil workers up there were out of work for over 3 weeks. Forgot to mention: ours "finished" 18km away from us and burnt 31,000+ hectares of land.

Bama, only for lighting the grill. I haven't had any steaks suited for that in a long time. Next time they've got T-bone in the store or something similar I might give it a try. Right now it looks like tomahawk cuts are in fashion here, a lot of stores have started carrying them.
