Dixie Chicks

Been working this plot now for the third year , was rather clay based , but with all the leaf litter each fall , plus grass clippings added as well as some manure it is beautiful deep rich black/sandy soil that can produce very nicely
soo lucky...sure wish I had a bit of clay for the minerals and other goodies in it...we have so much sandy ...infact if you seperate the tiny rocks it's darn near pure sand

I went to do my morning chores and saw the ancona ducklings in the chicken run. Didn't think much of it until I started to miss the Cayuga drake who was looking after them. Pretty sure the fox got him when he was defending the ducklings (one has blood on it's back but is running around just fine).

The ducks have a temporary enclosure in the chicken run until they take over the big shed.

Upon further inspection I found 2 spots where he tried to dig in. On one he hit wire and gave up, but dug deeper on the next spot.

I doubt anyone in that run is safe during the day now....

how deep did you do the wire?

ok can someone explain to me the f1 oliver egger f2 ect? I get that it is first generation then next but what does that all mean exactly? is it just a way to track how fair away they were bred to a blue/green generation and shows you it needs to be breed back or something?

ok just out of curiosity because I think everyone has added a breed or two this season what breeds of chickens or fowl of anything does everyone have now? I dont think I heard what kind you had either @seminolewind (just that you have pet chickens?)

did anymore chickens come back @RavynFallen ?
