Muscovy was the last duck I processed and ate myself, been awhile.. I've never had that so have no idea what my mouth might expect.. I've really only had limited duck eating

Ihave had duck once.... cooked myself wehn i was about seventeen. Dont even remember what it tastes like.

Here they are again. The greenish-gray (as @Alaskan said) eggs are from 3rd generation olive egger. At 1st I could wash off the brown coating. Now it cant be washed off. Must have been something about when she 1st started laying......?

Not having a good morning here. SO COLD OUT! Dryer decided to fling the door open in the middle of the night, so my clothes are not dry, coffee pot is acting up. I cannot live without coffee.

The hours I work, it is imperative I have coffee.

I haven't read thru all the posts yet, but was wondering did any of you have New Year's Dinners? Every New Year's Day we eat Sauerkraut with Smoked Sausage. I am German & it is our family tradition to have sauerkraut. I am told it means your family will prosper in the New Year.

New year's resolutions?

Mine are:

1. Get more chickens

2. Get more rabbits

3. Get in shape

4. Get our house organized.

We bought this "fixer upper" with all intent to fixer right up! Then a failed sewer inspection, fines, fees, fix sewer system put us back thousands of dollars. So, all the fixing up plans got put on hold.

Well, I gotta get to work. Have a good day.

Hey another use for bacon grease.... 

One time I was making Oatmeal cookies...  and went to the refrigerator and NO butter zip nada not even margarine...  So I substituted bacon grease and left out the salt.   Oh My Gawd    they tasted different a little smoky making them just a teeny more savory....  but very very good.

Just finished the first season of The 100 on Netflix. I thought it was good. Found out the second season is on huluplus, but its missing the first four episodes so I'll have to wait and hope Netflix gets it. Have you watched Jericho? Or FireFly? I didn't watch them when they came out, just watched them in the last yr. I watched Revolution on NBC, I see Netflix has it now. Seems like I like all the shows that end up getting canceled Lol!

Then some cooking and carpentry with Felix:

BBQ sauce

1 cup Heinz ketchup
1 cup brown sugar (the sticky kind)
a few cloves of garlic
(olive) oil
Cayenne pepper
Paprika powder
Cajun seasoning mix
Salt
Black pepper
½ cup whiskey
a splash of white wine or apple cider vinegar

Chop the garlic, and fry it on low heat in the oil. After about 10 minutes, add the sugar and let it get some color before adding the rest of the ingredients. Cook until the consistency is to your liking.

Good morning from -20C... somehow it's snowing! Little tiny flakes that don't make a difference on the ground due to lack of humidity.

New year's resolution? That's a tough one:
get more chickens
build a house
move into new house (and burn down the old cottage we have now)
have a big bonfire out of mentioned old cottage
get fit (already started the work outs 3 weeks ago) and back into the shape from 5 years ago

that is SUPER! kewl.. you must do lots n lots of pictures.. I sooooooooooooo admire the ability to build and do such things...

we purposely bought a property way below our budget to have the ability to build and make the property what we want it to be.

We've actually sacrificed quite a bit in order to do this. Moved 1800km away from family, new jobs, long shifts with overtime, etc... Right now DH and I spent ~2-3 hours awake together at night and we get every third weekend together, sometimes that's just the Sunday.
On average I get to see town every 3 weeks on my days off, should I really need something I rely on DH to know what I need. My work is ~20 minutes outside of town, DH works in town.
