Your german family and my german ancestors were SO OPPOSITE! My grandparents taught me the concept of: if you can't eat it, then don't grow it. LOL! DH was super excited to meet a woman that baits her own hook, takes the fish off the hook, cleans it & cooks it up! I thought all woman did that......
See, my great grandparents had their homestead and both sets of grandparents always ate out of their gardens. Then it skipped a generation (my parents) and has come back to life in me!

Me too. My parents eat out or processed foods. Not fresh foods or meats. So, did you like fishing? I LOVE fishing! We are looking for a little better bass boat than what we have now. I can't swim & not a fan of water, but I do love fishing out of the boat.

I loved it, can't wait to be invited out again! Last nights dinner felt so right, fish that I caught, spiced with rosemary out of my garden (among salt and lemon juice) with fresh ground pepper grown by another co-worker in Costa Rica (he works here only in the summer and spends his winters south) with lettuce out of my own garden as a side dish.
It just felt so right to eat like that. Very rewarding

My girls love fishing and all bait their own hooks. We go a lot, they make me. Any small panfish get ground up whole and fed to the chickens.

I use to be a lifeguard and love the water! I'll go fishing and keep an eye. Lol
