Dixie Chicks

Morning all!

Happy birthday@drumstick diva!

Buy the bubble wrap baggies off ebay. Totally worth it and bubble wrap is changing. It will no longer have pop

Huh? Bubble wrap with no bubbles???
a little piece of me just died. ..

Nope... Don't worry... I read all of the articles... They WILL continue to sell regular bubble wrap.

The new stuff, you need a FIVE THOUSAND dollar blow it up pump thing.....

The entire point is that the wrap can be shipped flat, way less space for shipping and storage... Then you pump up the bubbles, with your 5K machine and use it for packaging material.
PHEW!

Just got back from checking. We have 3 or 4 pipped.

Mama broody is not happy about her new cage. She ran straight out. Had to catch her & put her back. Not an easy task. She went immediately back to the nest though & tucked her peeping eggs under her,,, then stretched her neck as far as she could to eat some chick starter in their little feeder

. Little girl will have to keep me updated because I'll be at work

We should be able to take "farmer days" so we can watch our chicks hatch. I'll update you all later. I have 15 minutes to get ready for work. Should be interesting....

Why not?
Got to start somewhere and somehow, right? And they look great (to me at least)!
Well, I have 2 that are entirely white and was advised not to use them for breeding. 1 is a tricolor, usually used to break up other over marked ducks according to Mini. I believe I have seen this one give some loud quacks!! and the last 2 have nice markings on the head, but i'd still like to break up the body markings. Lots of work! Lots of breeding pans to set up next year

Don't tell DH

keep them all and breed them together. pair them up to give your best outcomes. Have to remember I'm 3 generations in now. I'm starting to produce well marked ducks more often than not. The 4th generation should be knockouts!
Too bad it's not easier to ship eggs or ducklings between Canada and the US. Even though I was advised not to use the 2 whites ones for breeding, I think I have to just to keep my lines pure. As long as I don't have the 2 white ones in the same breeding pan the genetic outcome should be marked ducks for the most part. Then cull new white ones out.

Egg wrapping done and boxed. Going to bed. I'm wore out. Night all.
Yay!!

Listen to mini... mini is wise... mini is good... ;)

Seriously, she has good breeding programs and great hands on knowledge, I trust her advice more than most...

All things worth it take time and patience, my friend... looks like you have a decent start, seen others start programs with much lower quality... heck, my Araucanas are a hot mess, but at least I got something, lol... you'll get them where you want them in time... just glad you got some doing well... :)

I agree, mini is wise, mini is good! My Ancona's have good size, and they aren't even full grown. I need to figure out how to weigh these guys. Colour needs improvement, but I have a good start.

My Cayuga's have a really good start. Hopefully my hatch happens soon, then I should have 3 lines to work with.

don't count those whites out just yet. I'm praying they are faint silvers or lilacs! Those 2 colors take a while to show through. They look white till the finally one day have color. If they are true whites, I wouldn't use them no matter what. That is recessive white showing and it is not something you want in your flock.
