Dixie Chicks

Anything worthwhile takes time and patience... and they are definitely worthwhile, especially having a grey from yours... :)
Jim absolutely adores them now too so have support in keeping and working with them...
it's great if you have help and support. Josh loves the ducks but not the chickens so much.

@Alaskan
this hatch started out with 30 eggs... and i have less then 10 in there now. Most weren't fertile to begin with.

Oh man! So sorry!!! :hugs

You know me... The meddler.... I am only incubating a few eggs right now  So I have them all in the one incubator (but I did turn on my second incubator for a large hatch on Friday).... Anyway.... So I wait until the ducks look like they are at internal pip... And then crack them... Well, open a bit of the top....

I make sure they can breath, then unstick them about twice a day... I have four out, and two more to go.....

Oddly enough, I don't usually do that with chicks until after they have passed their due date.... Maybe it is just because I never know when my ducks are due.... So I am always looking at them with the flashlight. :idunno

Mini.... Yes... Horrid day for you :hugs Funny story for us ;)

Ravyn, SUPER sorry that your sex ratio is not what you wanted... Way lots of frustrating :(

@Alaskan thanks, am ok though... just was so confusing cuz the blue pied looks like a girl... ironic though that my entire first hatch of calls turned out to be all boys, lol... got lucky with my lone hatch from minihorse being a girl, so guess it was trying to even out... :)

Mini, what color is the odd Marans? Is that
Lavender? The other choice is blue..... But then she would have copper hackles... Right???? Anyway, I think it is a girl, and I think she looks good body shape wise. I love that she has a tiny amount of feathers on her legs, not lots and not zero.

My WAY over the top amount of copper cockerel that maybe I want to use as rooster since some of my hens and pullets are so super black... ???? He is looking good as to body shape etc. But is of course way too young to really know much of anything.

The photo set above is mostly the growing out leghorns. I kept trying to get a good shot of the one RC dark brown, but he is super skittish... Just like my other ones. I think they might actually be able to stay alive if I let them free range... But I haven't yet hatched enough to risk it and see. Looking at him again to get this photo, maybe he isn't so bad..... :idunno Sure hate having only one to pick from though. (But that is much better than zero  )

The ones above are all of my mature flock... A couple of my Marans (my one black lady not pictured) my Dominiques, a gorgeous dark brown RC Leghorn, and a silly RC White Leghorn, I ink my SC White Leghorn is in those photos too.

The ones above are my d'anvers.. The black chicks are LF black Ameraucana, there are three bantam wheaten Ameraucana in there too.
@minihorse927 what is the color of the dark gray kinda one? Like a very dark lavender one? Center left in two of the photos?
The one photo with a chick looking right at us is a "goldneck" my favorite color! (The kids too), and I also have a female! So, yes one pair of that color!!

(If all of these photos crash someone's computer then I am SUPER sorry  )

@Alaskan I'm not minihorse, but that marans is a blue... the difference between blue (Andalusian blue it's also called) and Lavender/Self blue is that Lav/SB color is even (or should be) over the entire feather and blue has lacing, that darker blue edging I see on some of hers... and you can get just blue from blue/black coppers, I have 1 or 2 as well... I *think* your overly colorful roo over those would help, but not totally sure...
I like your dark browns, btw... can't say anything for type and color as I don't know, but they're pretty, lol...
Love your little goldneck boy! He's adorable!

And loving all the pics!! Glad to see them! :)

ETA: to me the dark gray chick looks like it could be blue quail...

Thanks Ravyn!

And see... I had remembered that... About "edging" with blue verses Lavender... But I thought that she looked like she did NOT have edging??? Man... I am not good with color!

Can you guess the color of the one d'anvers chick? First d'anver photo in the left center? Super dark grey or lavender or something?

I looked again and still think she has lacing... soft and muted, but I see it... who knows, it could just be me, lol...

I edited my last post, think that dark d'Anvers is blue quail... google blue quail d'Anvers and you should see what I see...
