Dixie Chicks

@Alaskan forgive my pic swipe, please... this one, yes?

I'm seeing very pale feathers where the arrow is pointing... also it has those same type of feathers with the shaft being super light and main part of feather is darker...

As for the marans... ugh, they are hard to sex at that age... kinda looks like pullet, but also a slower maturing male... :/

That's scary. This is why I raise enough to butcher my own. I know what's in my chickens. And what's not.

Morning everyone! Got to sleep in today. Back is killing me! Think I many need to look into getting a new mattress or something. No matter where I sleep in the house, it hurts my back badly.

We are picking out flooring today. DH wants to have pine tongue & groove put down for flooring because it looks so pretty on our back porch as the ceiling. Anyone here done that? I think it's pretty, but I think it will take a lot of polyurethane to seal it. We are looking into putting it in kitchen, dining room, and family room.

Hennible, I had not read about your chickens.

I'm so sorry for whatever happened to them. I have plenty of mutt chickens if you are ever traveling thru my way. My neighbors are really happy with the mutts I gave them. They give us plenty of eggs.

Speaking of such, we did not collect eggs on Tuesday because I left from work to do the 5k. Anyways, yesterday when we collected, we had 45 eggs! That's crazy good!

Oh man! So sorry!!!

You know me... The meddler.... I am only incubating a few eggs right now

So I have them all in the one incubator (but I did turn on my second incubator for a large hatch on Friday).... Anyway.... So I wait until the ducks look like they are at internal pip... And then crack them... Well, open a bit of the top....

I make sure they can breath, then unstick them about twice a day... I have four out, and two more to go.....

Oddly enough, I don't usually do that with chicks until after they have passed their due date.... Maybe it is just because I never know when my ducks are due.... So I am always looking at them with the flashlight.

Mini.... Yes... Horrid day for you

Funny story for us

Ravyn, SUPER sorry that your sex ratio is not what you wanted... Way lots of frustrating

Tonight I'll open a couple more eggs....

I saw the link on facebook this morning but haven't had a chance to read it. Considering that a lot of North American "raw materials" go to china for processing anyway, this doesn't surprise me.

That's a lot of eggs, you sell them, right?
Yay for new flooring, I find renovations fun! There are just so many options for finishes today....

@Alaskan, absolutely love all the pics. Yes, your Marans is blue. I've seen a bunch of blue and black coppers throw solid colored birds. It just happens. I'd say it looks like a cockerel but could be wrong. I agree with raven on the edging of the feathers. That bird has obvious lacing, but it isn't well defined lacing.

Your d'anver chick, (I am NOT a d'anver specialist) looks blue quail to me also.

Look at this awesome big run DH is building for the flock!! That big shed you see is the newly converted coop! Fully insulated.

Couple more days and we should be able to let them out.

This little project was meant for the ducks, but I love it even more when everyone understands how to use it!

Good idea to turn one into a feeder, especially for wet feeds such as fermented feed. This one is actually for water. The ducks can't make a huge mess with it.

The run is for the Partridge Chanteclers, the ducks and my 2 protection turkeys until spring. Come spring, they'll be split into breeding pens/groups.
