The reason I ask is two fold.

First of all I would like to eventually have Fly Ties in my flock if possible... maybe about one or two years down the road if you still have them.

Secondly.... Have you tried preserving capes? If you have what method do you use. I have read up on using Salt and using Borax.... But I hear salt makes the feathers stick to the hide... would that be objectionable for fly tying?

Woo Hoo for what its worht its RAINING here... yesterday 106 degrees today 75 and RAIN...

outside of our sinuses giving us fits its wonderful.... Actually got to use the windshield wipers today during a Gully washer....

Usually we have to use the windshield washers BEFORE we can turn the wipers on... too much dust.... and not enough rain to wet it.... but NOT today

And we got thunder and we got lightening...

tropical storm rolling up Baja will give us rain sometimes.... instead of rolling on over to Arizona for their monsoons. So yay we got some of Arizona monsoon rain.

Beer I just went there and read the whole thread.... Flyingmonkeypoop had what appears to be an excellent recipe for preservation...

I want to be able to have the option of skinning my birds rather than plucking.... and not feel guilty about throwing it away...

For that matter when processing time comes I probably will pluck the best feathers by hand then put the carcass in the wizbang... or home built.

But I am seeing prices for whole pelts running around 50 bucks for guinea fowl. Thats a couple of bags of feed at least.
