x2 love the face markings... bet it makes it hard to see mud splatters too! :D

I like the markings on the face, but the body markings should be more broken up. Right @minihorse927?

Yep... Nicely marked :D

Lol, its an Ancona duck, it better be marked!

WHAT A DAY!

1.   Lost 4 pullets today.  Well, I guess technically yesterday.  Someone needs to know that we have chickens.  Not ducks.  We are at our limit for the rain!  The pullets were all in a corner trampled:( -soaked because it rained hard last night, again.  They all run to the only corner that has a mini pond in it and huddle together.

2.   I was gathering garbage up and put it out front this morning----- even though our garbage day is tomorrow.  Well, a garbage man from another company came by and took our garbage...????  LOL!  I thought that was funny and random.:gig

3.   Had lunch with friend:D

4.   Got rear-ended while sitting at a red light.   Luckily no one was really hurt.  Their car didn't fair well.  My suv has injuries though.

5.   Got a new Countryline Log Splitter. :weee We took your advice @minihorse927
. It's a monster!  TSC is one of the only stores that has them in stock around here at this time of year.  I do not want to be cutting firewood with snow caked on it, in 20degree weather.

Now I am wiped out!  Boss text me and asked me to come in early tomorrow:th , so I'd better finish my beer and get some sleep.  Have a great night.

Man, what a day you've had. Hugs to you, might be time to just have another beer. Deal with the hangover tomorrow and the need to drink tonight.

Good find of a good article. But the article has it's flaws. Vaccinated or unvaccinated, exposed birds carry the virus and spread it. It's been around for 100+ years, and the best we are doing at this time is vaccinating, scientists are chasing the strains as they get stronger.

I vaccinate my birds because I don't want them to die.

They talk of strains like they are separate types of Marek's virus. The strains are v=virulent, vv=very virulent, vvv=very very virulent, etc. It's the same virus , just different strengths.

As for exposed moms having chicks, the chicks have 2 weeks of maternal resistance. It does interfere with the vaccine and weakens it.

Vaccinated or older exposed chickens are not healthy . They all still carry varying degrees of immunosuppression. So they are more apt to die from cocci, e. coli or enteritis, eye infections, etc.

As for leaky vaccines, I don't see how they can say that when there is no vaccine for herpes or HIV. With Marek's , which is a form of Herpes virus and behaves like HIV, we are kindof lucky that we've developed a vaccine that actually protects chickens from cancerous tumors, but not the immune suppression.

The Black Plague inadvertently got to run rampant and eventually burn itself out. But took 2/3 of Europe's population with it.

Chose not to do that LOL! Hangovers and dealing with other people's money doesn't mix well for me. Up early to get some cleaning done. I have a weird body clock. Wish I could sleep in a bit, but, not happening.

We put our broody in a fenced in area again yesterday and by the time we made it back there after the car wreck & dealing with their insurance company, mama hen and babies were running all around the coop and she was not letting any chicken past her without a proper pecking! We quickly corralled the others inside the coop and got mama hen & babies to their cage. It's so awesome to watch them.

Also had our other young chicks out. They enjoyed sun bathing. They were flopping around like fish & having a big day!

Removed the ones in the pen that died and bedded it down with straw in the puddled areas to avoid this from happening again. So sad. I've had a few older birds develop upper respiratory issues due to the dampness and them getting rained on. Why don't they take shelter? They all have adequate access to shelter

EVERY CHICKEN! Bird brains. I have not been treating them with any meds. Does anyone know of any natural ways of treating respiratory in chickens?

It looks also like they may have worms. I think this is the reason for such a reduction in eggs. I can't catch a break this week.

Funny news......DD-who totally freaked during the crash had the nerve to tell me that my hair was perfect when we went to lunch, but then it went super flat after the crash............Ummmmm, Ok?!?!?!?! My hair was the least of my concerns.

Thanks for the kind words and
hugs.gif
You all are great!

@BriardChickens, I like that chocolate Ancona. Yep I agree it needs more of a broken pattern to it but these build appears correct with a nice chest and deep body from the back to the abdomen. Its head appears well rounded and not like a runner. I believe you have a good start right there.
