As in sourdough?

Achem....

"My name in Al, and I have killed more than my fair share of sourdough"

I think I once managed to keep it alive for 6 weeks.

I do have sourdough starter also.....how do you manage to "kill" yours? Does it get moldy or something? My sour dough starter stays in frig now, but originally sat out for 2 days. I pull it out once a week to "feed" it and bake a loaf. It has to sit out overnight each time it's fed. Then, back to the frig. Also it's always stored in glass and I never use metal to stir. There are people who pass sourdough starter from generation to generation. When I started mine, I told my daughter that someday, she will be able to bake bread in her home using a starter from me that came from this day.

Friendship bread starter is different from sourdough, it's a sweet bread, but it sits at room temperature and is never refrigerated. It is "fed" on days 5 and 10 & baked on day 10 after feeding and dividing.

Friend of mine's dad used to make friendship bread all the time . You give the starter to friends, how it gets its name. Taste like banana or zucchini bread, really good.

Father in law makes sour rye and sour onion rye once a month in their bakery. He makes a fresh starter every time. It's the best bread I've ever ate. Mother in law says he works it to much, makes it 'tough' I told her that's how bread should be, heck of a lot better than mushy white bread...

@BriardChickens
,  Sending a shout out to make sure you are ok.  Haven't heard from you in awhile.  Seen the news the other day had so many people in the oil industry laid off.  Hope you are not one of them.  Take care :)

Today I am on day 2 of my Amish Friendship Bread.  Anyone ever made that?  I have and we just love the stuff out of it!!  Can't wait 'til day 10!!!

No, haven't been affected by the oil lay offs yet! Dh and I drove to the west coast in one day yesterday. (1000 miles). We will spent the next couple of days hopping from island to island (gulf islands) trying to decide where to live next.

Yea, sourdough is a bit tougher than store bought white bread. I love homemade white bread too. Going to make 2 loaves of sourdough this morning before work. Nothing better than fresh out of the oven bread with butter melting on it

@BriardChickens , That is super exciting! You guys have worked so hard on your place though. When you find the place, you will know it. We looked for MONTHS!!! Almost a year. The day we found this place, we looked at 2 others and one was very comparable to this one. That property was a Double wide on block -check
3 acres -check
mature trees -check
2 car garage -check
Located on a quiet 1 lane street -check
Barn/lean to that needs work (or torn down) -check
House needs work -check -(Not a selling point for us by the way)...
It also had a gorgeous pond stocked with fish out back and behind that house was a horse farm.

Beautiful. Only bad thing about that place, on the other side, lived a hoarder. And they wanted $10,000 more for that home.

When DH and I pulled in here, I said "I think this is IT!" We knew it needed work, and still does, but I wouldn't change a thing. Good luck with your house hunting!

Woo Hoo

Another 3.8 pounds down
yesss.gif
for a grand total of 14.4

For those who dont know me five weeks ago I joined Weight Watchers. My goal is to loose about 220 pounds. I was killing myself. wont go into those details. But... I am feeling soo much more alive.

I finally figured out why I am so achy all the time.... because I am freaking moving again. My legs have gone down considerably... my lower legs . Before they were very hard and un yielding one solid discolored lump from my ankle up about eight inches... I can now squish them about and much of the pitting edema is gone. Not all. If I sit up too long without getting up to move it comes back. UNDERSTANDABLE.

So looks like I will be able to rebuild my Coop after all...

@perchie.girl Way to go deb! Your on a role.
Looking forward to seeing your new coop build. Do you still plan on getting sumatras? I think minihorse got some that are fibro? I think if I lived in your hot climate I would try Egyptian fayoumi also, the 'quail' of the chicken world, fast maturing.

YEpper Sumatras... I want LF if possible. There is a source here I hope.... But I need birds that can fly well. a prerequisite for Predator central here. IF they want to free range with the Guineas. Almost all Sumatras are Fibro to some degree... especially show quality. Not looking for show quality... Just healthy birds that can fly. I may give Breeding LF Silkeys a try as well.

there is a bloodline of silky feathered Amaraucanas... First saw them here. What an awesome cross that would be.... LF Silky that layed blue eggs.

But really to be realistic I need birds that can support my Guinea Fowl project. Broodie machines... And Sumatras fill that bill and more. For egg laying I want Wellsummers again... But not so many this time.

Because I will be getting eggs from the Muscovys once I get started with them.
