I hate the feathered feet

A couple weeks back I had to cut off hardened mud balls from my last feather footed birds. Nasty.

Try Langshans, they don't have as many feathers on their feet as cochins or brahmas. I have a beautiful langshan cockerel I could send you if you want? Lol!

I love my Calico Cochin Bantams Dragon and Geisha Girl. I do not love all those feathers on their feet. And I trim the feathers often. The feathers get wet and stay wet and that is deadly at this mountain altitude during the winter. The feathers slow them down as they try to run in the grass and that could be deadly as these little ones can not defend themselves. They must only be front porch pets with egg benefits. They are tiny gems in my garden darting about during sunny warm mornings when they are their safest out and about as I work at my house garden. They know when I am done they will get treats and come to here kitty kitty kitty. They both come running down behind me as walk. They run shifting side to side with each hopping step to their hutch system for those wonderful treats. Such as red tomatoes, juicy melon, raspberries or blackberries.

So, last night we went to the Cincinnati zoo for daughter in laws birthday to see the Festival of Lights. We are all standing in the elephant house watching 2 massively huge elephants. They were enjoying pulling hay out of rope balls hanging above their heads with their trunks. It was freezing-literally outside, so everyone in the room (about 30 random people) was enjoying the warmth of the room, most of us had hot chocolate, coffee, or hot apple cider. All of the sudden PPPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSSSSSRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The largest of the two elephants farted. Talk about clearing the room!

. Lol!

Lol! Could you imagine someone lighting a match on that one!
Reminds me when I was a kid parents took us to the Catskill Game Farm, closed now not enough visitors, we took our kids the yr before it closed. Place was open for 73 yrs, almost a thousand acres, couple thousand animals, some bred for other zoos worldwide. People just don't travel and visit like they used to.
Anyways reminded me of the elephant show they put on, us kids thought the best most hilarious part was the guy that ran up behind them and caught the turds with a big tub, high light of the show for us Lol!

I need to find some partridge Cochin hens and a few silkie hens too. I'd like brahmas again also... I wish I had eggs to hatch, blasted birds, no eggs!! None! I'd hatch some ducks right now if I could...

the zoo had "fun facts". One I seen is that when horses poop, they poop 10 pounds each time.. Wonder how much the elephant poop weighs? Poor guy. What a sh**ty job! :lau

So my ducks have not been putting themselves to bed in the coop sense I filled the pool for them the other day. So I go out, its pretty much dark, to chase them home, smack dab in the middle of the pool, surrounded by ice, a floating whit blob of feathers... Aka Bowie, my lone silkie Roo and regular guest in my house... I snatched him up not sure if he was alive or dead and bolted inside (he's alive!) I rush to the bathroom no bleeping clue what I'm doing. I run warm water over him get the ice off. The bird is in and out of conscienceness, shivering, cold to the touch. I pull him out once his feet feel less ice like, pat him down with a towel and pull out the blow drier... I get him mostly dry, wrap him in a flannel baby blanket and stick him in my shirt. It's been an hour but I actually think he's going to survive if he doesn't get some infection or something from this stupid ordeal... Why the he** was he in the pool?! And how long was the little bugger in there, he sure wasn't fighting to get out when I found him. Poor bird.
