Kids are grumpy

Makes me lose my mind.

Better than spouse grumpy....maybe not if we're outnumbered....even worse, spouse and kids grumpy, spouse grumpy cause of loony kids....good thing we didn't have any more or spouse would be in loony bin and I'd be raisin them myself...

I sometimes wonder what they are going to be like when they are old, adults, kinda interesting thinking.

Yeah....

My eldest is leaving for about 2.5 months.... On Monday...

I am totally wondering if he will sink or swim.

Also makes me feel ancient.

Give 'em a kick, time to get out of the nest!!! Our oldest is graduating this yr, know she will be gone, can't wait!! $$ saving$! (not really)
Was looking forward to her going to college (not the cost...), high honor roll all through school, she's decided not to and to just work....can't say it's a bad thing. I work with many who spent tons on college and got degrees, we get paid the same Lol! Hopefully she's making a decision she is going to be comfortable with later in life. I go back to what I remember my dad telling me when I was that age; "do whatever you want to, you will anyways"...terrible advise, but the truth.
I can't wait till they are all GONE!! in 14-15 yrs maybe?...
(I worry about them all every second of every day)

Also makes me feel ancient Lol!!

My eldest is also graduating in the spring.... If he comes back at Christmas.

We shall see...

He is taking the rest of the fall semester off, leaving the night he turns 18.

I think the choices he is making are great ones.... Just yeah... Like you with your daughter... Very much a "I wonder what this will bring"

Today I was in the next city up the road, eldest getting his braces off... And another dad and son pair walked in.. That son was also getting his braces off... As soon as the braces were off they were going to go long lining, I think the kid said for just a few weeks... Not sure if that kid is out of highschool yet either.

@Alaskan what's your kid going to be doing?

He has been wanting for the last couple of years to go to a monastery for a couple of months... He couldn't go and stay until he turned 18.... So, the night he turns 18 he is going.

I told him that I would send him where ever he wanted... He had gone last year on a mission trip for just a week to the monasteries in Alaska that are right off of Kodiak island. He helped clear some land and put up wood for winter and fished for salmon with the monks. Pretty cool actually.

But he said he wanted to go to a different kind of monastery, a bigger one, and someplace new to him.

So he picked the one in Arizona to go to first. It is supposed to be the most strict of all of the ones in the US. He wants to stay there about a month, then go to one in Texas that is much more laid back (well, laid back in monastery terms). He will stay at the one in Texas for about a month, then spend one week shadowing my brother-in-law to see how he does all of his priest stuff. My brother-in-law is Romanian Orthodox, and we are Antiochian Orthodox. We are all in communion, but some little things are done differently between the different jurisdictions, and my kid very much wants to see it all and learn. The monasteries here in Alaska that he visited are OCA (Orthodox Church of America), and the two monasteries he is going to visit are both Greek Orthodox. So, different flavors but still one Church.

He will come back right before Christmas.

He wants to go down and focus on figuring out what God wants him to do with his life. Right now he likes the idea of becoming a married priest...but he doesn't yet know if that is what he should be aiming for.

Anyway..... Boy is going to turn 18 on Monday... So who knows if he will end up doing what he has told me he will be doing.... Or if he decides once he shows up in the Arizona airport if maybe he wants to go party or hitchhike accross the US....or.......or.... ?? Who knows.

I made bunches of royally bad choices between age 18 and maybe 30..... So I sure wouldn't fault him for going on a flake.
