Dixie Chicks

I don't do medicated either as it's toxic to ducklings. I won't keep it around for that reason in case I have to have someone feed the babies, they can't screw it up.

Very good point! We don't have ducklings tho... yet... a friend wants calls tho, so trying to get eggs to hatch for him... ;)

Anybody know how to do a good PIP dance to get this egg zipping?   Six hours of watching paint dry.  I have to remind myself,  count down on 'bater says "day 1" till tomorrow at the exact time it would be 24 hours since the pip.  I have a feeling he's gonna be slow to progress from "early pip" to right on time hatch.  (keep telling myself that).  Little critter is probably just asorbing and :yiipchick digesting his birthday egg breakfast.

I slept next to the bator all night when our very first Araucana hatched... good luck! It's so friggin' hard to wait!! :D

Ladybugs are good to have, they eat bugs that would otherwise eat your plants.
Unless they have bred with Asian Lady beetles and Japanese beetles and they swarm everything all spring and summer. I hope the chickens love them. LOL

@ tntchick I still have tiger lilies and a" milk and wine" lily clump that were here in 1987 when we bought the place. Can't kill em. The "milk and wine" lilies smell wonderful and grew so huge I offered to share them. My friend came to dig....we had to dig to china to find the bulbs, and it was really almost impossible to uproot any. She got a couple, and they did transplant.
We dug to China to remove Peonies once, (why did I do that?) then they grew back, but way smaller.

I remember those days...

Following~I'm in southeast Texas, about 40 minutes north of Houston. My boyfriend works a lot so I take care of his many game chickens, my peafowl, my many layers (many ages), our incubator, our (too) many dogs, several free-range ducks, a couple horses & everything else around here that I can on our 3 acres. Oh, & I fairly frequently watch my 28 month old grandson, teaching him a bit of life with animals (I hesitate to call it farm life, but I guess it is). I really liked the wing-sexing chart at the beginning of this thread. Hope it will be very helpful.
Welcome jld I lived in Cypress for 3 yrs You're gonna love this thread.

I wonder.....

how am I going to replace my rooster with a hetero rooster???

can't decide...

I could raise up one of his sons... but then I will have to wait for the chick to be grown up, test mate, etc. before I KNOW, and then the rooster will have a 50% of being a hetero..

or... I could order another set of eggs, related (same breeder as before, I don't know anyone who has this breed), but at least it wouldn't be the son over his mothers..... but the chicks I raised would maybe be hetero or homo..... who knows, and I would be out more money..... and I would still have to wait for the chick to grow up and test mate to see what I ended up with

Why did I totally not prepare for success???? The sole heat lamp is in the coop, a brooder is not all prepared, and I will have to wash, sterilize a plastic tub, and waterer and feeder, (at least I have organic chick starter -- one cup full

Resistance is futile...

hehehehe...yes it is. Congrats.

My 11yr old daughter was reading some of these posts the other day when I left the laptop on. She said 'what's wrong with you people, don't you have anything better to do, you all sound like a bunch of chicken freaks' Lol!
I wear my "chicken freak" title proudly.

I just realized I ordered 41 chicks, plus they throw in that "exotic" chick for free plus I figure on a couple extras in case of death. I'm going to have 45+ chicks the first of May.
