Dixie Chicks

I used to move furniture by myself when I cleaned house and one time my spine just said NOPE!

I spent the next 2 years on painkillers (which almost killed me instead of the pain) I barely remember anything from that time. I kept a pain journal just so I knew what day it was, I missed my kid's lives those years.

It still bums me out when someone says "remember when" and I have to say nope. I've been robbed of those memories. Making up for it with them being teens now though.

I did a bunch of different treatments, therapy, and finally just had the bulge clipped out of the disc and almost 6 months later, I had no more pain and haven't for 7 years now.

I keep moving and I take no movement for granted, if something is too heavy then dang it it's too heavy, and I don't even try. 10 yrs ago, I was throwing truck tires around. I have abused this body and paid the price luckily it was fixable. The only thing I refused was surgery. Way too invasive.

Jewelry is art to me, it's my hobby. I took metal arts in high school and loved it. I don't remember much though. What a great memory to hold from your grandfather.
I would love to get good enough to sell some stuff and I have to friends but I was using craft store materials so sometimes it looked cheap. I can't wait to get back to it.

I tried a bit of FF, but it wasn't a big hit with our flock so I haven't made it again. Maybe I'll try in the summer again when it can be kept outside...

I tried sprouted sunflower seeds.... they are supposed to love them... mine were not all that excited. I think I might try it again... just because sprouts are so good in the winter time.
We also don't do laundry between Christmas Eve and New Years Day.

Now, I am all for filth and not cleaning or bathing, or much of anything actually. But huh? Really? No laundry? I have never heard of that. I have heard of no laundry during times of fasting, or mourning, but between Christmas Eve and New Years Day would be a time of feasting.

Do you know how the tradition started?

Just curious. I find odd things to be pretty cool and interesting.

Must be nice! I'll be lucky to plant "stuff" by May.. however I have no idea where to plant "things" as we'll have a construction crew on our property this year..

I think the only thing left alone will be the chickens. The sheep fence will have to be moved for the septic field install.

Maybe just container gardening this year? Then you can move them around as needed, and nothing is permanent.

As to your cold, WOWSERS, that is cold!

Quote: Will I have enough summer to grow them?

I have heard that for short season cold weather people..... plant the sweet potatoes at the edge of a good hot compost pile. You need compost edges that are just warm, and not hot, but it needs to be an active enough pile so that the pile doesn't cool off completely.

Well glad it's behind you... Wow...

Did anyone else take days to realize Dixie chicks is also a band?

Dixie Chicks was a great band IMO. Until they got all political and turned their fans on them. I Don't change the channel or anything when one of their songs (very rare occurrence nowadays)
Comes on, but I would never go to one of their concerts or buy a CD.
I did love their 'Goodbye Earl' song, kinda funny.

When I was checking out chicks on Sand Hill I saw they have a lot of heritage seeds and heritage and rare sweet potato slips.

I gotta byc question what are those lil badge thingies by ppls pics with the like byc friend, 5 years and all that stuff?

There are golden feathers and platinum feathers memberships that offer you extra options... That you pay for... The friend of BYC with a number is how many years someone's been a member... I think...

I have scoliosis, pretty nasty curve in my spine. Two compact vertebra from tree planting... A pelvis that slips out pinching my femoral nerve, a bad ankle, wrist and shoulder... All tree planting injuries... I have to think before I lift these days... I hate doing a bunch of trips back and fourth in the yard but carrying two bags of feed at once or a huge garden cart of soil is just not a good idea any more... Ticks me off... I couldn't do much for the scoliosis ( no surgery thanks!) but all the rest are things I did to myself... The pelvis is the most painful, but the two bad vertebra are the most often aggravated... Physiotherapy helps but it's pricey... And I'm cheap... And stupid...
Whoops sorry that was a bit long...

Isn't it amazing what we will do to our bodies to accomplish something? I look back and am shocked at the things I carried, pushed, lifted, etc. I should be dead or crippled.

Me too.. Crap... What will 50 feel like for me? :/
Painful I bet...
Could have been worse right? Could have never had a body that tough to start...

My 5 years badge is to acknowledge that I have been a member of BYC for 5 years.
The BYC Spirit badge was given to me when I was nominated for it by other BYC members.
Here is a link describing the different badges you might see on avatars:

Got to go!

I worked hard manual labor, bluestone quarry at a very young age,and then full time after highschool, until I met my wife and had kids. Lifted heavy rocks and swung a big hammer all day long, daylight to dark. I always laughed and thought people were weak when they complained about their backs, heck I pulled a muscle or two many times. Until one morning I woke up and walked to my kitchen and sneezed. Put me on the floor and couldn't get up. I struggled for months and worked with the pain. Eventually one morning I couldn't get on my feet. Spent two weeks crawling, then graduated to crutches, then went back to the quarry. I got better but at leastonce a year I'll feel that sciatic nerve pinch, licka chunk of sharp metal in the hip socket, and stabbing pain down the back of my legs, scares the crap out of me, that was fifteen years ago when I was crawling on my hands and knees, I don't want to go through that again. I never doubt someone's back problems anymore.
