Did I tell everyone here what we figured out about our chocolate orpington hen we lost? I can't remember. I know some wanted to know.

Good afternoon, I posted the family recipe on this thread on this site mid morning. Sorry it had not been posted on this thread. I had sent it out all over the world and missed this thread. I give a copy to My older son's wife, they want copies of all family recipes. I make sure she gets my recipes when she wants them. I take my cooking seriously. Whenever my older son and she come, I let them loose on my recipe books and cards and since I have been to cooking schools all over the world. I have many and varied. All books, papers, notebooks and recipe cards will be my youngest son's but my older son and his wife have use of them. So whenever I cook (especially a family recipe) I make sure they get a copy.

Hmm, a pigeon can carry a letter, so why couldn't you train a rooster to fetch the mail?

I drive by a house that's about 50yards uphill from the road, they have their mail box on a rope and pully like a clothes line that brings it to their front porch.

Not even... chili chocolate?
yum

As long as he didn't have to cross the road it should be fine....

It takes a special person, my mom used to do that, she would bring them to our house for dinner sometimes. It was great for all of us.

I did, I said it! Sam might have some waiting for her in her mailbox right now, but she doesn't want to go check...
On my way for that chocolate, sorry Sam, snow doesn't get in my way

What a great idea!

My DH, a letter carrier for the USPS for 40 years, had a dog that the family had trained to get the mail. He went down one side of the street and they would let him out. He would walk down to the mailbox and sit. When my DH arrived, he would give the rubber-banded mail to the dog and he would carry it to the house. It hit him hard when that dog died....old softie that he is.

Our first dog did that too. In our area they drive a big truck, the driver would always stop at the bottom of the driveway. You always knew when they changed the routes again and we had a new mail man as they were scared to give the mail to the dog. We'd holler "it's ok, it's his daily task" after letting our big 90lbs shaggy dog out the door. Those mail men that knew Bobby wouldn't even get out of their truck anymore.
Bobby would also help with getting the groceries in from the car. You could trust him with anything, brick of cheese, steaks, or even bags of chips! All for trading for a cookie in the kitchen! Miss the guy terribly each day...
