Dixie Chicks

Darn, our day 4 sprouts have developed mold. I think it's a bit too warm in the btathroom, and not enough ventilation. I might move the tower to the living room. Also, the seeds I'm using at the moment are a mix of wheat and oats. The wheat is sprouting nicely, while the oats aren't. I'm going to have to try with something else, because the unsprouted oats might be the cause for the mold.

just wash well, and feed now... it is already sprouted, you don't have to wait for greens.

Temperatures have been up and down here... really starting to hate this heated waterer I have in my coop. If it isn't perfectly level all the water runs out. Lets just say I have a heap of frozen shavings/straw in my coop and there is no way of getting it out in our temperatures!

Next week is vacation time!!

That is why I use just a regular rubber pan for a waterer... less operator error

Woo hoo. 2 months of chicken feed and bedding= $252.60
2 months of egg sales= $252
Negative 60 cents not bad ( I refuse to calculate hydro for waterers and light )
Anyway the rest of the year should be better, we will be using less everything once they can forage and spend less time in the coop.

Hennible: Breaking even is about all a person can ask for...or do you think your customers would accept a nice little increase in the egg price?

Thanks tnt and mini for thoughts on our limping girl. She has the swelling down but weight bearing is another story. She's got a good amount of discomfort. So Ibuprofen, rest, immobilizing the ankle is our strategy the next two days. Called the school she's got permission to carry aruond a backpack and use the elevator and get more ambulating time to get to her classes.
Securing crutches somewhere today is my task.

The broody Momma is looking so sweet there in her cage with biddies.

DUCT TAPE

I need to be duct taped down... or someone could break all electronic devices...

I keep looking at the egg sales.......

SO difficult not to BUY THEM ALL, so that I can

nice

Not bad at all hennible! My chicken feed keeps getting broken into by the sheep. Stupid sheep! Now that it is a few steps up on the patio it seems fine. We'll watch and see for how long that lasts and how much longer a bag of chicken feed last us.

TNT: I've got a huge heap of frozen poop/water/shavings in the middle of my coop. I tried "shaving" it down with the spade, pick it off with the pitch fork and got no changes to it.

Yesterday we had a good day, 5 eggs, but 3 froze and cracked by the time I got to them another

Yep, I realized I have a frozen heap too. Waiting on a sorta sunny warm day above freezing will have to do for now.
Somehow after one of the roosters hogged the favorite nest box yesterday after the four eggs in the morning, we ended up with 6 more by dinner????? Good luck charm? We had been down to 4-5 a day.
