Dixie Chicks

I Am having to be social.... So yep, I had to bathe :p

When I left the house one leghorn chick had completely unzipped, but NOT torn the membrane... I ripped the membrane and he popped out... It is a SINGLE comb white/yellow chick.... So THIS is a rare cool leghorn breed?

One quail had hatched, two pipped. They BETTER have hatched when I get home!!!!!!!

I am thinking that I have to seriously rethink the quail diet before
I hatch them again.

@briard awesome with your poultry :)

I refuse to type or internet in public.. So gotta go... Be back in about four or five hours!!!!

Ever figure out what kind of turkeys you have jem?

ONE Dumpling is a bronze broad breasted turkey and the other one is either another bronze OR a narratuck or whatever ya spelled it I looked at the turkey site and I am leaning more torwards the nantucket one.. noodle just seem to have a shorter neck and rounder head then dumpling but they coulda been twins otherwise... I sure been enjoying the turkeys and surprised to figured they woulda been alot more fuss and problem then they have been.. I did keep them under the heat lamp and coddled them more then the chickens cuz of @Alaskan comments about them being not so cold hardy

SOMEONE better commiserate with me and my snow. my head cold, and the quail not hatched.

Morning all! Gotta get ready for work. Had a bad thing happen to chicks yesterday

. I have 3 brooder pens. DH uncovered one about 9am after I had left for work. (The only one that has to be uncovered). Said he checked all three for food & water & all was well. At 7pm when I got home I had 2 dead chicks, another 2 near dead. They had trampled each other, pecked pretty bad, and were sitting in water. The brooder box has an open floor and it has chicken wire top. I cover it nightly with a board, but there are still open slits for ventilation. Any how, some way the water puddled in their pen and it all went wrong. I know we lost an easter egger & not sure of the breed on the other. I'll figure it out today when I get home from work. The 2 that were near death is an easter egger & a light brahma. I have the brahma in a bird cage in the garage with a light. Checked on it this morning & it stood up and has drank and ate. Better than last night. The injured Easter egger was not as bad off. I put her in another pen where the chicks are a week younger. We also moved the pen to higher ground.

Ah, that was a lovely sauna... I feel like a new person.

It will be interesting to see how much the hemp distributor charges me for the hemp he was supposed to be marketing there. He had sent an over sized pallet of bedding, it had 33x 150 liter (40gal) bales on it. I kept pushing it on everyone and managed to get rid of all of it, made about 300 euros I think. We also managed to sell a lot of the Bainbridge Farm signs. By the way Jem, you should check them out, they have really cool signs and they're only about 20-30 miles from you (although the drive would be 50 miles since you have some water in between). Karin has ordered probably 70 signs from them already, if not more.

I also bought some locally grown spelt and oat to make porridge from. And over 3 lbs of honey. I almost bought some hatching eggs but decided not to right now, since we're a bit limited on space. I do however now know where I can get Silkie x Svarthöna mixes and 75% pure Araucana eggs from. So I might get some of those later in the summer, especially if I could convince the guy to put his pure Araucana rooster in with the Silkie x Svathönas, that might make for some mighty interesting birds.

Then when we were about to leave, the owner of the farm who had also been in charge of feeding everyone put 2 lbs of leftover shrimp in my hand, so we just ate a huge load of shrimp pasta and toast Skagen.

Aw, sorry to hear about your chicks.

I keep having to move one of my Chantecler pairs. The flood zone in the yard keeps changing.

I found this interesting read on hatching duck eggs. According to him, everyone has the right humidity.

I'm a little iffy about that site. A little bad info can ruin a site's credibility.
