thanks... I needed the hug...

I didn't even get to the road repair.... Stupid horrid people expect me to have the road perfect at all times.... do you realize that 100 feet of road, costs me OVER 2K to repair? (the driveway I am supposed to be maintaining, out of the goodness of my heart, is about a quarter mile)....

there is more...

the septic tank guy.... the well problems....

whatever.. reality BITES, and it bites hard.

One of the Psalms says says something about wanting God, like a desert wants for rain.....

I used to live in a place that baked.... but none of them baked as much as your place... however, it was enough that I can truly feel you joy.. So lovely! I hope it stays overcast for a week after the rain... that is what helps the plant so much... then they can suck the moisture up better, and seeds can actually sprout and grow!

Nope the clouds are gone and the temp is ramping back up... No shade so the moisture will cook the roots. If you grow in containers your best bet is to paint em white on the outside...

In Las Vegas Any where there was shade we could grow grass... but we had no trees. So mom would move the lawn furniture around the yard....

kind of worked a checker board mosaic of green and scorched...

Hint water in the evening.... Gives em all night to suck in a good drink. and cut the grass long like three or four inches... self shading.

Or just dont grow grass at all.

around my house all sorts of things are good at sucking it up quick... Then there will be a flurry of flowers and seeds.

repairs bite.. I've been there in the middle of the winter. Frozen septic tank, frozen sewage line, frozen water line from the well to the house as well as frozen pipes under the house. Thankfully never all at the same time. This is over 2 winters. This winter we only lost the gray water line going out from the kitchen.

Thankfully by last summers repairs my boss had become my neighbour. He owns a heavy duty shop/oil field construction company/dealership and let me borrow a mini excavator for a weekend. Since I don't know how to operate machinery he came over and dug and filled our ~100ft long, 7-8 feet deep trench for our new water line. Cost me 40L of diesel and some beer. Can you imagine how long that would have taken if we dug that by hand? Or how expensive it could have been had we hired someone? Really grateful towards my boss!!!

Bummer, Alaskan. Hopefully next week will be LOTS better. Via many hatches, I've found that Marans eggs always hatch a day or two late, which may explain the fluid you encountered.

Yep, Briard got it so right: Repairs bite.

On a happier note:

At 7:30 last night the Gambel Quail started to hatch. The pile of eggs coordinated with each other and it was all done within 90 minutes. And they didn't just hatch and flop about the incubator either, unlike chicks. They popped out and zoomed to the other side of the Brinsea. Cute little things with a pea-sized head and little feather-spike topknots. And noisy... Off to the Wildlife Rescue in an hour or so.

We had a real drencher of a storm yesterday and last night... dime-sized hail, cold heavy rain, snow on the mountain this morning. Glad that I had the intervention because I'm not sure how they would've fared out in the yard if Mama could've hatched them.
