Wow! Guess she was picky, huh? lol... would love to see what you get from those... ;)
go ohiki, go!

I'm excited to have chocolate and mauve easter eggers. Lol!

The Orp I just gave away had a funny LOUD voice -- sort of like a fog horn...and a crow that noted UP at the end rather than down.

COCK A DOODLE DOO^ oooo
(editor won't let me get the little o's above the caps line of OO's. :/
His offspring roo (that I also had to rehome because of crow complaint) had a similar call.

They do sound different than any other chicken I have ever heard. The hen has that "in a well" sound too, but I have not noticed variations in her sounds from other hens like I did in the roo's.

I had the 7 broodys... the other OEGB started killing chicks as they hatched, so she got tossed back out to the pen and banned from trying again... 2 other Araucana bantams hatched a couple chicks and are raising them... and 1 Ameraucana hatched 3 and has already gotten the babies independent at 3 weeks and is laying again... :D

Seven broodies! wow! That would be half my flock :D.

I do think my 3-year-old Americauna/EE went broodie...or was avoiding the roo, or is getting old. She stayed in the coop on a perch over a month, but would eat from my hand and didn't appear sick. Normal poo, clear eyes etc. She started puffing up and clucking continuously like a hen does with baby chicks...and never went through the sitting motionless on eggs phase. She has finally begun to come outside and whatever she was up to, I think she is getting over it.

Has anyone heard of a hen acting like she had chicks when she had not even brooded eggs? She was not laying during this time...her first break in laying was last winter, she lay continuously until then.

Oh and stupid me let the paint ee pulled out of the orp pen... she was running the yard when I got home. Hope the butcher bound boys didn't get to her. Argh.
