I hate those body mass calculators. For my height weight it says I'm considered obese but when the doctor looks at me and says if I weighed what they calculator says I should, I'd be skeletal due to the way I am built. Now, I could stand to lose 30 lbs and look right still, but definitely not the 50 it claims.

Alaskan, I know how you feel. I moved the first 6 hatched quail into a brooder last night. I still have a dozen or so that need to hatch.. and they are just not hatching. Since I've had a few hatch you'd think the rest should too. Thy looked like they were almost done when I candled a few days ago. Actually some looked like they were trying to pip.

I so agree with you and your doc on this... those BMI's are structured after supposed 'ideals' that just aren't realistic in the wide varieties of body types... I don't go for the 'big boned' theory, but body structures are widely diverse... I could stand to lose a few, but not as much as the BMI says either... I got down to that once and I just looked wrong with how and where the weight loss was from...

I say if you aren't gaining, maintaining fairly well and you are healthy, then you are doing well and better than a lot of the population...
@Outpost JWB glad you have a motivator, just remember not to push too hard, don't go drastic and you'll be fine... good luck and as long as you are happy that's what matters... :hugs

BMI isn't an absolute, but if it puts you in the obese category, then you're probably at risk. Better measurements would be being able to climb two flights of stairs without getting winded, or being able to run 2 miles.

I dunno... I am in general a giant meddler... But I am thinking now that my temps must have been too low.... There was lots of dust on the temp sensor ... Just noticed it last night.... I blew it off...... Must have been from the ducklings hatching...

There are clearly living chicks in those eggs... But they clearly are not close to hatching... So meddler though
I am... Nope, I am not popping the top off of any eggs to look inside.

(However, i would probably crack all of your eggs BC! :lau )

I don't know if the ducklings were on time or not... They were extras laid in a nest that I rescued when the rest of the nest hatched... The extras were all ages. I actually waited until they looked ready to hatch, and then popped off the top of their eggs, helped them internally pip... (Because I didn't want to increase humidity because of the rest of my eggs).... Then I unstuck membranes with a toothpick for three days until they hatched just fine.

Nope smarty pants.... Not the running.... Some old foggies should never run, super bad for the joints. How about we settle for a fast walk?

@Alaskan you are bad influence.. I'll candle again tonight and see where things are at.

I've been at the "perfect" BMI once, the scary part was: had I gotten seriously sick and just lost a few pounds those same doctors would have called me too skinny.

When I was that small, I was super fit, running, walking, dog sports, paddling the dragon boat and outrigger, etc... now I don't run, work has me sitting most of the time. Once my dog has recovered form our week of training (last week) I plan to start running again. A few pounds could come off again.
