Dixie Chicks

@minihorse927 remember the bantam Araucana chick that looked like your Isabels?

She is super friendly... weird since she is broody raised...
red pyle.maybe? She's super cute. Snuggly is a huge plus, especially when hen raised!

I have the feeling her colors gonna change more, lol...

She insisted on sitting on my shoulder all day... can't believe how social even our hen raised chicks are...

My hen raised chicks tend to be much more wild.....like the hen teaches them that humans are bad.

My roosters slept in today. King Tut didn't crow until 5:30am.

Housework for yesterday went somewhat well. We still are not ready for construction.

I need votes and opinions.....My laundry room is this color:

My kitchen will soon be a dark yellow. The kitchen is in the middle of the laundry room and dining room. My kitchen is decorated with chickens. My dining room currently has big ugly wall paper on it. It will be stripped off and painted, but I am not sure if I should paint it yellow to carry out the kitchen, or if I should paint the dining room red or paint the far wall red? I'll try to get pics later so you can see what I am dealing with.

Son text me yesterday & offered up help getting firewood from a neighbor. YEAH!

So he and I picked up 3 truck loads of unsplit firewood. I've been looking for a good log splitter. @Alaskan , What kind do you have? Been borrowing a friend's log splitter past 2years. It's a Husky 30 ton monster. I think the one we buy will be 27 ton or larger. It'll be used a lot, so I want it to be a good one that cuts vertical and horizontal.

We had NO RAIN here yesterday!!!

Finally! Way too soupy to get anything productive done out there though.

Well, I have 2 loads of laundry to fold before work and still have to get ready for work. You all have a good day.

I'm not much on painting so I can't really help there.

We have had 2 different splitters here. We've had a craftsman and a huskee. Both have split everything we put in them, including locust. Neither one has given us any major problems, but the motor on the huskee has outlasted the motor on the craftsman. Huskee now say countyline but they're the same manufacturer.

Interesting thought... but do you want to give up that feed?
No... I really don't want to buy and open another bag of quail food. I can only get their feed in 50lbs bags. So, a dozen little quail take a long time to finish one bag! It would take them for ever to finish 2 bags. Haha

Talking about quail: Came home to discover one of the "younger" girls with a swollen eye lid and scratch along the side of her face. Looked nasty with puss around the eye, I have a picture of that. Although I didn't want to, I separated her. Found some vetricyn in the house and sprayed that on the injury. It had a parrot picture on the label so figure it was fine to use. Turns out the eye looks a lot better this morning. I am hoping to integrate her into the pen of the older pair in a few days. Right now they can see each other.

Once released you might never see them again... can they escape through vents or open doors?

I'd their well being would depend on temperatures in the greenhouse during the summer and winter. I don't think they do well in sub zero temperatures.

They'd probably make good bug control, cleaning up of seeds, etc.

I would agree with this. Have to make sure no holes big enough for escape and can't leave any door ls open. Probably have to put mesh doors across the entrances if you need them open while the quail are in there. They do good I'm the cold if they have a dry heavily bedded spot to nest down into
I have friends who have kept them in -25°F weather overnight but they had 8 inches worth of shavings to sleep in plus hay and straw on top of that. There was 6 or 7 quail per cage at the most. Some cages only had 3 or 4 quail in them. They didn't report any losses.
