Dixie Chicks

Went to change the water for the bunnies, and the youngest ones were outside on an adventure. They scooted behind their hay net and nest box pretty quickly when they saw me, but I saw one come out from behind there and going back into the nest box. They're starting to get active.

Yeah for the bunnies.

Klucky, what hatch rate did you get on the chickens?

By the way, Baby drake is JUST FINE!!!!! :ya his one wing isn't as strong, but he can hold it up just fine etc. so it is only a issue for when he has to protect the flock again.

The before photo I took is so fuzzy... You can't see anything. The photo after I stitched him up, is clearer.

ITs amazing how much injury they can endoure an come through famously.

One of my Guinea Fowl Hens.... Miss Peggy got her name when a raccoon removed one of her legs ..... drive through Take out... IT was removed at her hip joint. The torn muscle closed off the blood veins so there was little blood. I just put her in a hospital cage with food and water and she was hopping around on one leg in a week in two weeks I let her out with the rest. she hung around some protected places while she gained her strength. After a month she was up on the roost with the rest.

Deb, we didn't open it, if it's Marek's, it's in the soil. The ones left seem healthy, so there's really nothing we can do. Best to just breed for resistance.

See me.... I would just want to know.

I hate not knowing.

I too would want to know because its in the soil and your biosecurity should be doubled to protect any chicken owner friends.

For what its worth I wont vaccinate for mareks either. I want to know if I have it on my property for the very reason to protect friends from the disease.

I wish they would come up with a "Real" vaccine for Marics.... sigh.

another reason to stick to ducks and Guinea Fowl.
