Dixie Chicks

With bear, at least here, it depends on what it has been eating.

Bear that has been eating salmon is :sick. A bear that has been gorging on berries is wonderful.

I love bear, tastier than moose. :drool However, I have only ever had it in sausage.

I fried up salt pork and eggs for breakfast yesterday. When I opened the package of salt pork, it smelled odd. I almost tossed it out, but reassured myself that I'm just not used to it, and the curing process has made it nearly impossible to go bad. While cooking it smelled fine & tasted yummy! We all ate it & we are all living this morning:D.

My chicks keep trying to eat each other.:(. Yesterday I moved and separated them 3 times. It's still too cold to put them outside.

Cat did well during her spaying process. She didn't make a peep all the way to or from the vet. She is such a good cat. I had to crate her because she wants to play with the dog, run, and jump on the counters and such. She needs to heal, but she won't listen to me. Crazy cat.

Bear fat (bear grease) can be preserved with rendering for a long dang time, years I think.

Anyone ever have a duck vanish to hatch out ducklings? Her eggs have been missing about a week and now her... One of my muckovy.

My father rendered a bunch when I was a teen. We waterproofed our work boots with it for yrs, he kept it in the freezer. Kinda smelled funny. Dogs loved sniffing my boots...
Dad had a japanese black bantam he used to hatch out all his RIRs for many yrs would always disappear once every summer if you kept taking the eggs, she was constantly broody egg hatching machine, show up a few weeks later with chicks of her own. Thick woods and brush all around their house so you couldn't find her.
I had a duck set on eggs across the road passed a field into woods, hundreds of yards from our house. She would come back every few days to eat. Little ducklings made the trip back to our pond, 18 of them!

Kick the chicks out. ;)

And yes it is still cold. The snow is trying to melt, and has melted on the south side against the house, but there is still lots there.

I did guve them two very well anchored heat lamps. Haven't lost any.
