Dixie Chicks

Dang!!!!!

1. I should be allowed to slaughter my own animals whenever I want..

2. There is this entire thing about "safe driving distance" if you run into the car infront of you..that is your fault. Sheesh. (Terrible and awful.... But still)

I made a trashcan feeder!

I take the flat out in the nice day time and they get sun in the Man Porch.

Rick went to town yesterday, comes back home with skoocum four tube light for seedlings...

Buys me fencing wire that was on sale in the flyer too...

so I can put up the cut panels he cut for me...

for the ewe lambs that will be arriving!

Rick cleared out the area in the garage for two of my plant tiers and set up the new light today...

Pretty spiffy!

Dug out three of the five strawberry barrels in the New Orchard yesterday eve. Not sure when the strawberries I ordered will arrive (along with all the other tenders like taters) but weather is with us to get prepped.

Surprised how easy it was to remove the barrel tops and the dirt...two more to remove and then put in landscape fabric (to sorta inhibit the grass competing with the strawberries) and new dirt.

Bought a pineapple after I saw the kewl one grown on here...she got roots now so she goes in dirt...got what, two years now to wait?

It was midnight the other day and Rick, he's in the kitchen...I ask, "what ya doing?"

Making syrup for the hummers...

So he has two up for them. Problem is you never know when and suddenly, there they are and they need FOOD something fierce after their migration all the way up here! Poor blighters!

First dandelion to blossom

Rhubarbs starting up in the main garden.

Supper last night...pork ribs and homemade BQ sauce in the crock and cooks all day.

Made up macaroni salad too.

Add the cobs of corn Rick picked in town and voila...good eats!

Love watching Amber and Fifty make stuff...but laugh because, well they have NEVER had a worse critique about building than a girl bird like some of ours...

Ruddy Shels are the type of duck/goose that make nests in the side of river banks

So I fashion up a chunk of PVC pipe, duct taped (Red Green would be tres PROUD of that use!) it to a small pet crate, slid in some tenplast on the sides (so the sand does not seep into the crate) and there...should be good to go.

Well Golly...what an inspection!
roll.png

Girl bird is on the top of the nest structure, male in attentive presence... "Well...what you figure old wench...."

She has inspected the pipe like a dozen times...no idea if she's ever gone inside yet (just put it in yesterday) but half expected to find her half lodged in it...oh well. She'll use it or she won't...simply after that much pick pick, it is whatever!

Even the patiently waiting dogs (outside watching the proceedings) are unsure of her approval!

OH well indeed...

No matter why someone stops, if you slam into them, you've been driving too close. A good rule of thumb is leaving at least 3 seconds in between.

Hi everyone, I've been a bit busy, so I haven't been checking in in a while. We just got another litter of kits today, Karin counted 11. And the previous litter has just started venturing out of the nest, they're a bit over 3 weeks now.

I've been working on the greenhouse and building a stone wall in the garden, and we have all kinds of plants started. The tomatoes sprouted about a few days ago. This year we decided to start them a lot later than we have in the past, so that we could get them out straight away when they get into that growth spurt state, so we won't have to stop their growth for a few weeks all of a sudden.

The pumpkin, squash and zucchini plants we started are looking huge, in a few weeks it should be warm enough to move them out. If not in their final spot, then at least into the greenhouse for a while. Sam, some of your seeds are among these too =).

With the greenhouse standing where it does, we're going to have to figure out a new spot to grow beans and peas. We'll see where we end up placing them.

((( No matter why someone stops, if you slam into them, you've been driving too close. A good rule of thumb is leaving at least 3 seconds in between.))

Not at all the truth , sorry .....but I had a person cut in front of m because she was in a hurry , only to realize the lane was stopped , she almost hit the car in front of her due to her error , I slid into her , icy roads and I already was leaving ample space between me and the car in front of me , also in 4x4 to gain extra traction , she was parked diagonally across the lane when she stopped ??!!! I even asked her why she had cut in so close , she admitted her error , her lane had stopped due to a person turning off the road , to much in a hurry!!, but our insurance company is under the same false belief that I had been following her to closely ,even though she admitted to the error I refused to sign any papers , as they wrote on the report that I had been following her .....which I never had , going to get one of those dash cams , next time I'll sue the insurance company

@Cold Canadian

That is horrid (that you had a wreck due to someone elses stupidity...and that they said it was your fault) but that isn't a case of following too close or not or whatever... It is a case of a driver taking a big risk, driving wrecklessly, and jumping immediately in front of you. :(

Talking about horrors....

I got a box of chicks Friday.... I have NEVER had such a loss! Never even close....

Out of 25 chicks... As of right now, I am down to 6. Nope...that is not a typo.

Of the 6 left, 3 look good.
