I didn't get hand me downs as a kid, I was the oldest, and like hennible said, destroyed clothing as a kid, always holes in the knees so my clothes never got handed down. I hated Christmas, all Grandmothers and Aunts gave clothes, I absolutely hated what they gave...flannel shirts, button up, and snap up long sleeve thin shirts also that looked like flannel, funky colors, multi colors, stripes this way and that..ugh UGLY, some looked like they should have been table cloths....And then knitted hats and gloves, ugly, super ugly...Mom made me wear them outside to get on the bus, those hats were stuffed in my coat pocket as soon as I saw the bus. Pants were always way to big 'you'll grow into them' had to hold them up when running, never had a belt....Having had to wear hand me downs I for myself could not wait for the day I out grew my sibling .....thinking now he could wear my hand me downs ! but that didn't happen .To this day I will not buy used clothing / tools etc....won't ever catch me wearing something used , all good for those who do , but not me
Different strokes...etc. I am still wearing "hand me downs" from a neighbor whose weight fluctuates. She has things in "every color and in every size" that she likes. When the attic gets stuffed there with plastic tubs full of clothes and she needs room for more, I get to go over and PICK what I would like to take home.....NO SHAME, no problem...I wear a better quality than I could afford new at the store....its free, it is sometimes never worn, or lightly worn. Win win. What's not to like?
Our boy has got plenty of hand me downs from wife's sister, only child they have, all his clothes look like they were never wore, look new, and the nice expensive stuff. He has many hooded Harley Davidson sweatshirts, super thick and warm, and all like brand new. I watch the kid, my nephew every day in the summer, kid doesn't like getting dirty. Neat freak like his dad, his dad doesn't even like getting mud on his ATV...my girls love making mud pies, boy the youngest would probably eat the mud pies if I didn't watch them close.
I never had hand me downs as a kid, two big of an age gap, I was a "surprise". I get hand me downs now from nieces and nephews and cosins though, I destroy clothing so hand me down are handy.
Hand me downs are definitely handy, why clothe them in expensive good clothes to destroy them. I wanted to put my boys old shoes on to go outside today, couldn't find them so had to put new shoes on. 'Dad I found my spider-man's'....buried in the sand pile....must have went in last night barefoot....
works for only children too....
Little kids wear whatever, mine would probably go to town barefoot in their underwear if I'd let them.
Three little kids, the two teens....OMG, oldest can't even wear the same expensive dress that she wore to her prom she wanted another one to go to her boyfriends prom at a different school, 'They didn't even see you in that dress!!' Someone might have so I need a different one....buy it yourself then, Aunt with one boy that wont play in dirt bought her one, same Aunt told her to do what she wants when she had the opportunity to take college courses in eleventh grade (she's on high honor roll Superintendents list!") instead of taking college courses at another school half days she decided (with the Aunts prodding) to go to our local trade school half days, for Cosmetology!! grrrr!!! I wonder how 'Aunt' would like us to tell her 'don't like dirt boy' to tell his mom he hates soccer, and he wants to quit??? she makes him play, even extra out of school league.
Me and the wife both took half days at that trade school, (her agriculture and heavy machinery Lol!/ and me auto-body refinishing) but neither of us were on high honor roll, it's a good school, but dang, you got it use it!!!
