Do all chicken eggs taste the same?

For a serious question, sarcassm is

The yolk to egg size was pretty amazing. Orange and more flavor isn't a problem. I've always preferred egg whites to yolk and this was like eating a yolk.

I'll try 2 whites to one yolk and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion. I was wondering what we were going to with all the extra eggs.

How long does it take for a chicken to lay an egg? She sat in her box almost an entire day.

I notice a difference in flavor between each individual hen's eggs. My big Aussie Fin lays the yummiest (IMHO), they also have the biggest yolks. I notice that my Ameraucanas and my OEG lay eggs with smaller yolks.
If she just started laying then it sometimes takes awhile, mine lay almost every day now and they are not in the box very long to do it.

I just owned chicken this year and had fresh eggs. I can't tell the difference between store bought or fresh. What gives? She's eating layer feed and get to roam the backyard. Am I doing something wrong?

My hen hardley gets any chicken feed at all. She eats what the horses drop from their bowls and all the bugs she can eat. It does sound like feed is the answer based on what you said swtamour.

They say that if you smoke you can't taste your food very well. I've only had store bough eggs my whole life 50 something years. Have had one every day in the past two weeks. But I love the taste of eggs. Some people don't like eggs at all.

I don't smoke so I know it's not my taste bud. I don't know how to get my eggs to taste "fresh". I've been giving them lettuce but they're not interested. Only treats they like are yogurt, corn, and fruits but I don't give them that much fruits or corn. Some people posted here how their chickens love cabbage, I gave them a piece and nothing.
Hennypen-What are you feeding your horse? Maybe I can buy some at the feed store.

Farm/back yard eggs from chickens that are allowed to eat bugs and grass etc. have something store eggs don't' .........flavor. They taste like eggs are supposed to. My chickens are eating mulberry's and grass all day long. Their eggs are very yummy and the yolks very dark orange.

I have neighbors who tell me farm eggs taste "funny". They both grew up in town eating the flavorless battery eggs from highly medicated, scrawny, over crowded chickens.

Mine just started on Layena crumbles a couple of weeks ago. They were getting Purina medicated starter/grower before that but when the 50# bag ran out I switched them.
Before the heat wave hit us a few days ago they were getting a few handfuls of Purina scratch grains thrown about the yard and run.
They get cut up red grapes with plain yogurt every morning and before my mealworm colony went to nothing but beetles (waiting for new worms now) they got a few meal worms here and there.
They get leftover hash browns on the weekends I cook them (yesterday) and shredded cheese from time to time. A few other assorted human food treats get thrown in from time to time as well. (can't remember them all right now but they are definitely yard sharks when I'm standing at the grill)
Curiously, I can't get them to eat lettuce or other greens.

Yes, they are spoiled.

But that doesn't stop them from mowing down my habanero plant in their spare time, as well as picking away at all of the various weeds and grasses in the backyard.

My RIR started laying 12 days ago and my light brahma started yesterday. The RIR made quite a production of the whole affair at first but now its business as usual. Not much time or noise involved. She did go from small to jumbo eggs yesterday. I'll bet I have 2 double yolkers in the fridge right now. The LB seemed to take a less dramatic approach to egg laying from the start, thank goodness, and her eggs are still quite small.

I have saved all of the eggs I have collected with the exception of 4 of the later model, slightly larger RIR eggs which I ate.
I finally worked up the courage to eat what came from my chickens butt (won't be eating anything from any of the other pet's butts anytime soon) a few days ago and this is what I have to report:

They were the strongest shells I have ever cracked (the yogurt maybe?)
They were tight in the pan. Not only was the yolk tight and bright orange but the whites held their form.
They were delicious.

I was wary of the first eggs because maybe she hadn't perfected it yet?

But seriously, maybe the first small ones don't have as much white? I don't know cause I'm going to blow out the first ones from each bird and fill them with resin so I can save them.

Farm eggs are "organic" eggs. This means they come from hens, that haven't been fed hormones, or steroids.

If you bake cakes or pies, you will definately notice a difference in the fluffiness of your home made cakes.

I've found, that duck eggs make the largest, fluffy omelets.

I have found, that guinea eggs make the best pickled eggs. They're just the right size. .

How could anything store bought be better, than something you grew and harvested yourself.

People have just gotten too trusting of store bought food. I trust what I raise and harvest myself
