Wow that is very cheap! Unfortunately, here in California (or at least my town) they are high in prices, which is pretty good for me at least. You said they were $1.36 and sell them for $3. Is it tough selling them for three dollars since prices are so low near you?

I am still not known through all of town and getting it out that I sell them
but no one I sell to has complained

Hi Penny1960 - I've found that word of mouth works great. I sell my eggs at work and at my chiropractor's office. The office personnel there have told their families about the eggs, and now they buy from me too. One of the ladies in the office has a sister in law that works in my small town at a pharmacy, and she wants some eggs too. The lady at the doctor's office told me to "take extras" because others would want to buy some too. So, it's going great here! I'm still at $3.50 for 12 and $5 for 18.

@ Peeps61
my other neighbor yelled at me this morning I walked to the end of the garden gate,
they had just been to the store and bought eggs but he asked my prices I told him that is higher the
store now and he will now start buying them from me

That is great! Grandson and I stopped at TSC and got 6 silkis $1,50 ea.they were getting feathers and that is why they reduce them. Met a new family that moved less than2 1/2 miles from us and she wanted to know if we sold eggs. Sure do and a new customer for us. So when I got home I told my daughter that the chickens were on sale because nobody wanted them and I couldn't leve them there any longer. And that's the truth!

the store has the dozen for 1.36 the 18 count is just over the 3.00

Naturally the egg prices fluctuate in the stores a lot and it is Easter time and the hens are laying better. The low prices happen to be sale prices in our area at stores that usually sell for less. Other stores are $1.68 a doz. for lg. Now if I were to shop at a speciality store for large brown eggs I would pay more than $5.00 a doz.. if I sized/weighed my eggs I could charge much more for my eggs than the $2.50. I would ask $4.00 for the large brown dozen and $4.50 for xlarge and $3.00 for med. (now I am getting small eggs from the Sultuns which we eat) I figure it isn't worth my time to sort the eggs so the cartons are generally mixed sizes mosthy large with a couple of med. and xlg. Most of my customers are after brown eggs so for them this is a huge savings. We do give our phone number to customers so they can call to check and make sure we have eggs on hand. One Sat. a customed wanted 10 doz. and we only had 8 doz.then less than an hour later someone came for 3 doz. and we were out.
Our chickens are mostly confined but they are let out sometimes on purpose and when the door doesn't get shut right. Free range eggs could bring more money only if your customers know what freerange is. As I have stated before the sale of eggs is paying the feed bill. We got chickens last year because Drew was going to show them at the fair for his 4-H project so we got brown layers 6 leghorn and some fancy Bantams, not intending to sell anything. We let the chickens run loose for a while but they went to the neighbors yard so had to fence in an area. Most would go to the coop early but a few wanted to stay in the barn until we had to clean up all the chicken droopings they left. They are a messy animal and am trying to keep them away from the house and garage when they are out.
So here we are almost a year later trying to incubate eggs and me getting 6 more silkis at $1.50 each from TSC. they were cheaper because the feathers are coming in. Just waiting for warmer weather so I can get outside more to enjoy things.

If the store has eggs for 1.36 a doz and 18 eggs for 3.00 something is crazy and it would be the customer that pays the 3.00. You could by 2 doz for2.72. People buy eggs from us because they want quality!
