So today I went out to my chickens and a couple of them had little white flakes on their feathers. It looked a lot like dandruff. I was wondering if that is normal and if not, what can I do about it. Thanks![IMG]

When new feathers emerge from the chicken, they are covered with a sheath. The chicken grooms itself, breaking the coating, which flakes off. It does look like chicken dandruff....

Yes it does haha![IMG] They are about 8 weeks old and still losing their baby feathers, so that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your help![IMG]

If you raised them indoors, you know they can be VERY dusty, and that is what you are seeing.

I am so thankful for this site. I saw dandruff on my baby chicks today, and about freaked out! Oh! no! mites or lice!!! I see them preening all the time, so they are working on it! They are all getting new feathers, so we are seeing some chicken dandruff. We are good! Thank you BYC!
