Do chickens like to play in sprinklers?

I applaud you for trying to take care of your birds in this heat. Shallow pans of water in the shade, muddy wet spots in the shade, lots of shade and cross breezes, even a fan in the coop are all helpful for them in this 100 degree heat. Mine also like hanging out in the garage where there's a nice cross breeze and the slab is cool. Luckily I don't keep an actual car in there lol.

I'm so glad I found this string. I had my young chicks out yesterday in the sun while I cleaned their cage and they were sunning themselves, I think...laying on their sides...they SEEMED to be happy. Anyway, I thought, maybe I'll sprinkle them with water...good thing I didn't! How deep is too deep for a mudpuddle or pan? In other words, when is it a worry that they may drown?

As long as they are more than a few days old, I don't think drowning is a worry. The water should be just deep enough that they can stand in it and have their feet submerged. My huge pan is on an angle with no water on one end and about 2 inches of water on the other. They end up wading through the whole thing but it gives them a choice how deep to go lol. They also love the bottle of water frozen then put in a container of water. Gives them ice water most of the day

mine go running when they see me bringing the hose. it's actually a good way to get them out of the blue spruce they like to dig under and take dust baths and hide when it's time to go in their pen. i don't have to spray them, i just bring the hose and go running
