Do I have a largefowl silkie, or is she just fat?

I told her if she would be good and stand on the scale that she would get an extra treat. Like she needs more food! Lol!

Your Wooley reminds me of one of the roo's I lost when first starting with chickens. It never occurred to me to weigh him, I didn't know that he was unusually big until after I lost him and learned more about silkies. Now that I know, I want another so badly. He was very very sweet natured, and loved his hens.

Do I have a standard silkie, or is she just fat?

You really mean LARGE FOWL. Standard refers to the breed standard, not its size. I should become the LF police!

So yes, breed her to make large fowl silkies, the world could use that.

I love your big Silkie feathered hen!

I have a large fowl half-Silkie hen, kind of partridge coloration, that has the black skin, five toes, correct comb, etc... I recently hatched one of her eggs for the heck of it, knowing she'd been breed by my White Silkie rooster recently. One egg was all I could fit in my bator at the time, it was full of Marans and Ameraucana eggs. I got a nice white silkie feathered chick with everything "Silkie" except she only has four toes on each foot, not five, despite her Mom and Dad both having 5.

This is an older pic. She's now 3 weeks older and has a fuller crest and is filling out to look like a Silkie, and is about 25% bigger than the other pure Silkie chicks. I wish I had a male LF half Silkie to breed her with. I've got to get a new picture.

Also hatched a Standard Langshan egg this weekend and the chick has 5 toes! My Silkie roo is talented to say the least!

He's been tidbitting our younger chickens, and ladies. He doesn't eat as much as he should, so he's kinda skinny. He is starting to put weight on now though. I will let you know once he stops feeding the others, and starts feeding himself more.

Are you in the states?
Looks like a regular hatchery silkie. They do usually run a bit bigger then well bred silkies.
