Do I help my eggs? Day 22.

I'm starting to really understand your concern. My chick that had a tough time hatching because of a vein being in the way and I had to help it. It was born on Tuesday and she is having a time with doing things. Her toes aren't malformed or anything but she is just overall weaker than the rest and it doesn't seem like she is growing at all. She will sit there and cry for me and I'd she is knocked over, she will not help herself up a lot of times. :(

Quick Question:

I'm in the process of putting shoes on her feet. Band aid on the bottom, sticky side up. I'm aligning the toes and then putting some tape on the top of the foot.

I just aligned one foot and did not put the small back toe in the shoe, is this a concern? The shoe only has the three front toes and the back toe is hanging out the back of the shoe.

I just lost a turkey poult that hatched normally, but was weak on her right side and had balance issues. After several close calls and a lot of tender care, she still succumbed to what appeared to be lung/sinus issues after only 6 days. I know that she had little chance to grow up to be strong and healthy but it was still sad to see her die.

One thing that did really help her was to put her in a coffee cup with a piece of paper towel on the bottom. It was too small to lay down in, so she would exercise her weak side to stand up and look out, and would lean against the wall when she got tired. I wouldn't leave her in there more than 30 minutes, and after 3 days her walking and balance were MUCH improved. But she was a wet mess after hatching and was cold and wet for too long, and it was too much for her.

The hind toe is normally what stabilizes them and keeps them stable when walking. I have never had to put the slipper things on any that I have had, but normally they need that back toe to keep themselves stable when walking.

I had a rooster that a dog took a grab at and he broke that toe, he would hop like a kangaroo after that because he couldn't walk right without it. He got around for close to 6 years that way, but yeah the hind toe helps them to walk.

My chick is doing well today. Seems to be getting more balance. I'm still working on making her some chick shoes. Made some last night for her, but I took them off this morning because I found some issues with them that I need to fix today.

I do have a very serious concern with her right now. She still has that crackling sound when she breathes and it seems to be getting worse today.
I have some amoxicillin on hand (from a past cold I had), and I also have duramycin. I would like to give her some sort of antibiotic today to help with her breathing. She is eating well and doing pretty good otherwise. I am just very worried about her breathing, afraid that it could kill her if I don't get it fixed very soon.

What is the best antibiotic I can use and what should the dosage be on a chick this small (she is a golden sebright BANTAM chick, so very small.)

Thanks all.

A little update on my chick-

Got a hold of an avian vet in my area. Was able to get the dosage for amoxicillin (10 MG for baby chick).

Last night we were using a syringe to feed her the amoxicillin mixed with water. All of a sudden she began gasping and her head flopped over. She stopped breathing, eyes closed.
I grabbed her and began massaging her neck. Starting from just below her beak and going all the way down to her crop. I did it several times. Her eyes began to open and then not long after she began to breathe.
She is alive and stopped gasping after a few moments.

I won't be using the syringe anymore. A piece of thread made into a loop and dipped it water seems to work well.

I finished making her chick shoes today, and both her feet have them. How long should I keep them on her?

I'll continue to keep you all updated. Need to take some new pictures of her stylish sandals.

She is really tired right now, doesn't want to eat. Been sleeping all afternoon.
Could the amoxicillin be making her tired and lose her appetite?
