Do mature muscovy drakes always look this gross?

I suppose because ducks are waterfowl and live in/around the water, so waterproofing is important. Though I don't think Muscovies are technically ducks...

As for the turkey, he only looks good if he stays dry, here's a pic of him when wet and one of David when he looked sleek and soft.

Unfortunately birds don't have a very good sense of smell, though the idea of sexy stinky feathers is funny xD
I do understand what you are getting at.

Wikipedia told me that they are ducks and I am major expert now. :p (sarcasm)

I learned from wikipedia that male and female musvocy ducks can have allmost 50% of change in size. And I know that by breeding animals where this happens, and also have some sort of oily thing going on on them; the bigger the more they smell. And the bigger the males are the harder of a time they have to clean themselves as perfectly then the females or some lean thin males. Rats for instance and sealions, when born as the manly-type of man can often not even reach places to clean due too having more fat/muscles. Often in the neck-region and not being able to clean the giant balls they got with the fact they had suchs a giant neck. And smell more.

What wikipedia does not say, but where I live where muscovy ducks are inland duck species; they are named after 'musk'. You might have heard that term from old parfumes. We also have a rat species that we call that. Because it smells like musk. 'Musk"is a term like the Japanese umami. It's not quite explainable what it means to others. I love 'musk'. the smell of musk. And where I live musvovy ducks are called 'musk ducks' because they have this certain smell. Different then other ducks. Just like the musk-rat species do not smell the same as all the other rat species we have or mouse/beavers anything alike. And the 'musk' dear not like other dear. (why we make parfums out of it is still a riddle) It might be this smell that makes you think they are more 'hygenic present' then others.

That is a lot of information :p

Muscovies are not from the netherlands and do not naturally live there. Their native range is in South America and Southern North America. If you have muscovies on the loose by you it is because they are escaped domestic stock. It is not confirmed where the name came from but there is a good article I read once that explains very well that the most likely reason was because of their ability to help control the mosquito population in the swamps that they were domesticated from. You are correct that they are ducks, that is a fact. Drakes can reach everywhere on their body besides their head and upper neck.

You love the smell of musky ducks?

the ´musk duck´means something

They are here so long that they are consindered species that belong. They established here hundreds of years ago. And are a part of the ecology. They were brought long, long, ago on boats. After a certain time they become part of nature. We can not really send them after 1000 generations back to south or north America do we?
We cald them after Musk in this country. Because of their musky-smell that comes from the males active oil-glands.
We never had musquito-problems. We had had animals that already were called musk-animal name, this reminded of those animals, hence muskduck. There is no 1 name that ALL people called something on the world or that it might be derived from.

My Muscovy drake does not have a musky smell or a smell at all. I mean he has a slight smell but it’s not strong.

Maybe it differs because your's are well kept. As I learned is that why they use it (really dilluted form) in parfums because musk is made to attract females, and those feromones in it could do that too but humans can't actually smell it but biologicall now :')
I never smelled real life musk. Maybe I did. I know hunters can. I would probably not smell it. I can smell a female cat that is becoming in heat though; because I work upclose with them. It probably works the same with hunters.

I'm know more worried about that muscovy ducks heart and liver are an igrediënt in the homeopathic medicin oscillococcium.

Sure but this still does not make them native to the Netherlands, they don't naturally live there, they were introduced.

This is what I am talking about with their name, your country did not come up with the name, you can call the musk ducks but that does not mean the species was named after 'musk.'
