I suppose because ducks are waterfowl and live in/around the water, so waterproofing is important. Though I don't think Muscovies are technically ducks...
As for the turkey, he only looks good if he stays dry, here's a pic of him when wet and one of David when he looked sleek and soft.
Unfortunately birds don't have a very good sense of smell, though the idea of sexy stinky feathers is funny xD
I do understand what you are getting at.
Wikipedia told me that they are ducks and I am major expert now.

I learned from wikipedia that male and female musvocy ducks can have allmost 50% of change in size. And I know that by breeding animals where this happens, and also have some sort of oily thing going on on them; the bigger the more they smell. And the bigger the males are the harder of a time they have to clean themselves as perfectly then the females or some lean thin males. Rats for instance and sealions, when born as the manly-type of man can often not even reach places to clean due too having more fat/muscles. Often in the neck-region and not being able to clean the giant balls they got with the fact they had suchs a giant neck. And smell more.
What wikipedia does not say, but where I live where muscovy ducks are inland duck species; they are named after 'musk'. You might have heard that term from old parfumes. We also have a rat species that we call that. Because it smells like musk. 'Musk"is a term like the Japanese umami. It's not quite explainable what it means to others. I love 'musk'. the smell of musk. And where I live musvovy ducks are called 'musk ducks' because they have this certain smell. Different then other ducks. Just like the musk-rat species do not smell the same as all the other rat species we have or mouse/beavers anything alike. And the 'musk' dear not like other dear. (why we make parfums out of it is still a riddle) It might be this smell that makes you think they are more 'hygenic present' then others.
