Do my hens experience ''labor'' as they are laying an egg??

Am I reading the replies wrong. It seem to me, many are comparing laying an egg to giving a live birth. I don't follow the comparison. If the discussion was about mistral periods/ laying an egg, I would agree. Might be painful. But then, I'm not female.

I wonder what explanation can be found in the bible for the evident pain experienced by animals during labour?

As far as I am aware, there isn't any explanation. I'd be interested to know what greenfamilyfarms, who originally said "I believe that animals don't experience the pain like a human female would" on the basis of genesis, has to say about this.

Yes this is old I know. But, since the thread has resurfaced...

Laying an egg is analogous to live birth because of the size of the "object" relative to the normal size of the orifice. You can say the passing of an unfertilized egg is similar to menstruation, aside from the size thing. A fertilized egg is like live birth, if life begins at conception, although others may argue it is more like a miscarriage though that would be inaccurate since it's not meant to be carried to term and is the natural design/process.What it boils down to is a lot of semantics and it doesn't properly correspond to any one process, but given that the original topic was about the pain or discomfort level, the proper analogy doesn't really matter.

Regarding the Bible thing, omission of something doesn't mean it doesn't exist or happen. It's been quite a while since I've read the Bible, but I don't recall it mentioning photosynthesis or gravity, maybe not even bowel movements, dinosaurs, black holes, heroin, SIDS, the Aurora borealis, cartwheels, cats retching up hairballs... Should I go on?

True, there are many things the bible doesn't mention. But in this case, the pain that women suffer during labour is a direct result of Eve's disobedience. I would have thought that it would follow from this that since the animals haven't been guilty of disobedience, there should be no reason for their femailes to undergo the same suffering. So the implication that they don't suffer is there. But perhaps the bible gives a different explanation for the animals' suffering. That's what my original post was hoping that someone would provide an answer to.

Gotcha. That does make sense.

But it could also be that as humans we were "blessed" with a lack of pain until Eve's disobedience, after which we had to suffer the same as the animals. Just another possible interpretation.

Yes, that does make sense. But in that case I still feel we need an explanation as to why the poor old animals were cursed with these pains when they're entirely innocent. It seems a bit sadistic.

I was going to say the same thing. I have read it and studied it. During the crucifiction, going from memory, where does it say or expand on Jesus's misery. It explains the process, what happened, and what He said. God gave us common sense. So we know when He screamed from nails being hammered into His wrists, it hurts! The chicken on the video is not screaming, but she said a little something. We are to use common sense to figure out when an object as large as an egg passes through that small orifice, it has to at least be uncomfortable.
The Bible also doesn't say anything about PMS, severe menstrual pain etc. It stayed on topic.
People who wish to question, such as " science is better, why learn from the Bible, " IMO, are threatened and trying to disprove that which they don't believe. Some people believe sign, the stars, Crystals, Buddha. We all have the right, Aye? At least for now.
For me the Lord is present and expressed through nature and amazing creations like chickens and eggs. I dont believe the Lord will be happy about Battery Cages. As a Christian, I have a problem with people who say ill treatment of animals is OK because the Bible says the animals are to be ruled over by us. Doesn't say "Don't be cruel. Don't suck up and destroy every piece of habitat." Another instance where we are blessed with common sense.

The animals were given to us. Adam and Eve were disobedient, causing the fall of mankind. So the sadistic ones are us, mankind. We cursed ourselves and the animals. Our disobedience seperated us from God, leaving the entire creation in a fallen state. Had we not disobeyed, no one would have labor pains, be ill, lie, be cruel to animals or kids. We delivered ourselves back to the ruler of this world who was cast out. Thats why we have Jesus. To fix what we messed up in the first place. Amen :)
