One problem with a catch and release using box traps the animal has become educated to it, so more than likely one releasing this animal on to another's location may make catching this animal in the same type of trap very tough. animals learne real quikly..

then one must use another alternative to capture that animal and put it down..which can be frustrating to an amateur or fist time trapper..

The ONLY "RIGHTS" an animal has are to stay the heck off my place! My dog is a DOG, my birds are nothing more. If you dump em here they are fertilizer!

.....thats all we need, more lawyers representing the poor down trodden tit mouse!

I do free range my birds. Every night I go back out to lock them in.

So, then what happens when a raccoon shows up in daylight, much like a situation I had here a few months back, when your birds are free ranging?

I have never seen a raccoon out in the daylight.

Count your blessings, then. When a coon is out in daylight here more often than not it's rabies. Creeps me out the way they move in that condition.

Even the healthy ones will sometimes be out in the day.

Day time for coons is totally-not normal and yes generally a rabid one. Coons also carry rabies, may never show a symptom. I kringe when I hear about people raising them...as pets....

I/we (our family) has learned so much about this topic! Thanks for the free education! I can't count on 2 hands and 2 feet how much we've learned from BYC! So much information. It's awesome!

Raccoons do go out during the day. Those that do aren't all rabid or infected with distemper. Some do their foraging for their young during the day. I get call quite frequently for raccoons out during the day. If it's obviously sick, I'll contain it for the Animal Shelter to retrieve. Those that appear healthy (of course, I can't do a diagnosis. I base my opinion on its appearance and demeanor) I'll allow to go about their business.
