Do people look at you weird when you say you have pet chickens?

we've had some folks make fun of us, they crack the usual are you gonna eat them jokes, and they just come right off the egg list, "NO eggs for you!", kinda like te soup natzi. most folks think it's cool, and wish they could do the same thing! just smile at the other bunch and know in the back of your mind that they'll have to go on eating funky store bought eggs!

I get laughed at. Jokes cracked. Called a chicken hoarder (I have 22 chickens) and more. Its hurtful to me but I try to ignore a lot of it because I love my chickens and they bring me a lot of entertainment. I live in a residential area so I think legally there is a 10 limit on chickens but i live next door to the person who does the neighborhood ordinance and she said have as many as I want and have roosters. She said roosters will at least not crow at 1 am like some dogs bark.

You get the initial jokes about having roast chicken for tea and what not but I haven't been referred to as weird for my chickens, Theres much worse things about me that are weird

Most people I know actually love my lot and ask me how they are etc, Everyone who has me on facebook has to put up with hundreds of photos of them

I get funny looks all the time. One person even glared at me after I mentioned them! But my friends understand (whether they like the birds or not) and all I have to do with anyone else is show them a chick pick and mention that I get that cuteness EVERY YEAR and they start to show interest in them at that point.

'The more people I meet, the more I like my chickens.'
(wish I could remember where I saw that line)

The worst I get is we have a friend who won't visit us now that we have chickens. They said our chickens are nasty and they don't want their kids around them. Makes us seem like nasty people and we aren't. Probably the most hurtful thing yet. And this family is best friends with my husband. They haven't been to our house yet since we got chickens.

I find that chickens are a lot like cats: people either love them, or hate them.

Other people's (sometimes ignorant) not-so-encouraging comments when they hear that I am getting chickens:

What is the big craze about chickens?
Are you going to kill them and eat them?
Why are you getting so many? (Love this question!)
Can I have some eggs?
Ewww... chickens smell!
Chickens are noisy!
Where are you going to put them?
Are you going to eat the eggs?
You can give ME the eggs.
You should only get meat birds.
You're crazy!
They are a lot of work.
I'm afraid of chickens.
I'll only eat the eggs if they are purely free range and grass fed.
So and so had chickens and they were always ... (fill in with something negative).
They aren't pets, you know!
Whatever you do, DON'T name them!

People think I'm weird when I tell them my bantam cochin walks down to the bus stop with my son and I and acts like a little dog and loves to be picked up and kissed

LOL They say, YOU KISS chickens?? YUK lol Not like his head has poo on it!

However, my DH thought we should. What a shocker that was. We built a coop and bought some chicks, now I'm considered the "Chicken Lady". He makes fun of me because I talk to all my animals. Now, this was his project and I'M the Chicken Lady. I'm really not a looney toon but I think if you talk to animals, you get along better. They are all my pets and if he thinks he's gettin any fried chicken, he better head to KFC.

Most people are very surprised.... "Chickens? In town? Is that even allowed?" There is a bit of weirdness factor to it, but really they are just pet birds. When they see me giving away dozens of high quality eggs, that has sort of redeemed them in a lot of peoples eyes
