Hello all. I have never raised meat birds, but decided to get 2 when I ordered my layers just to see how it would go. These 2 hatched 6/4 and seem enormous to me!! Do they look abnormally large to you experienced members? They had 24/7 light until about 2 weeks ago, now I am turning off the light at night to see if the weight gain would slow a bit. They are set to go for processing 6/28-just hoping they will make it that long ☹️

I am going with a local butcher who can't do it sooner due to the county fair. I have no idea what they weigh-they still get around OK and "run" around a bit when I clean the enclosure. I would be really bummed out if they didn't make it.

I see!
I process my own so two is easy for me to deal with.

There are some processing threads and articles on here

They look quite normal....I would guess they are approx. 6 lbs dressed right now. We have processed Cornish X up to 8 lbs. As long as their feet stay okay, you should be okay. Worst would be some extremely hot weather as that could stress their hearts. Good idea to keep the lights off at night as well. :)

Thanks everyone-our butcher took them early (yesterday) and said they looked great. Yup, close to 6#. Due to bad heat for almost 2 weeks beginning of July we moved them out of the coop and into our garage for the last month. They had a pretty darn good 7 week life.
