Do you give your chickens yogurt?

I give them plain unsweetened yogurt about once a week or so for a treat. They like it.

I used to give them a small plate to share, I think they liked it but they'd sneeze it all over my legs.

To put in what I think, yogurt has lots of benefits, like all fermented food! But I avoid dairy in general, for myself and my chickens. In humans, dairy causes constipation. In chickens, dairy causes diarrhea, especially in young birds. And a few other reasons. So I stick with non-dairy fermented foods.

I get them a box of yogurt when at the store, they love it!

One of the first things I do with a new batch of chicks is feed them yogurt, it helps with pasty butt and has greatly increased our survival rate. Which is good, because I have a habit of picking up 'lost cause chicks'.

I give mine a little yogurt when I make some. I also use the whey from making Greek yogurt to mix with the crushed up bits of their food to make a mash. They love that. A lot.

I mix up tums in yogurt for eggbound chickens. They love it and I give some to them as a treat occasionally. My girls happen to get white beaks and the process- and it’s true they do sneeze it and fling it all over you!
