Nope. I'm in western WA and it never gets cold enough to warrant that. Besides, I'm on Whidbey Island where the power is notorious for going out without notice. If they got used to it being nice and toasty and suddenly, on a night where it got down to the teens the power goes out, they'd probably freeze or just get sick and die.

EDITED TO ADD: I am on the edge of Zone 6 and Zone 7, in the mtns at 2000 ft elevation. It can get down to zero here once during the winter, but usually doesn't go below 10-15 degrees at night.

No, not even when it's -10°F outside. Only the waterer has a heated base.
8x8' coop, 8' at highest point. Probably 30 birds out there, all snuggled together, though there are a few that absolutely INSIST on sleeping outside, even at temps below 0°F. Deep litter, insulated with R19, with vents. Temps range from 30°F to -30°F and lower from October to April.

No - so far it has not got below freezing in the coop, dispite a few nites in the 20's. (we have been lucky with warmer than normal temps so far...)
